birth control

Hiii ya’ll

k ive been put on birth control for acne purposes, so heres the scenarioo…

i was on birth control last year but i only did 2 cycles…
I was told that i should take at the same time everyday, but if i didnt its not a big deal because im not taking it for contraceptive purposes. so i took birth control around the same time then…

Im now taking birth control again, and im just wrapping up my first cycle…altho i have to admit i have not been taking it at the same time - i do however take it only in the evening cause ive started taking it in the evening…
ive been noticing a bit of weight gain which i noticed when i first took birth control (in the right places if you know what i mean) …but this is a bit different from last time, im wondering if its cause i havent been taking it at the same time. i havent been able to see my doc cause hes well…a prick…but if anyone can assist me regarding taking brith control and more infor, ive read the directions and everything that came with my birth control, but it only gives me warnings and such and its sooo different from what my doctor told me and friends that have taken it tell me…arghh

im on diane -35 btw..
thanks a ton

Re: birth control

Well i've no idea about this birth control pill but your acne problem might've been triggered from what you eat. I would personally suggest not to have any oily food (try and avoid it as much as possible), drink lots of water, avoid having too many nuts. Also try not to experiment with moisturisers etc that you use.

Re: birth control

BCP's are certainly associated with weight gain. in the right and the wrong places. but its minimal weight. 5-10 pounds which can be easily managed by proper diet and excercise, but doesn't take a month to show the effects. atleast 6 cycles. you should take the pills at the same time, even though you're not taking them for contraceptive purposes, because your body still has to know when the "hormones" are being "released" so it can work around that schedule for it to effectively work on helping your pimples. also, it takes atleast 4 cycles for it to show any effect on the acne. so right now just keep on taking your pills

Re: birth control

Honestly, it may just be age as well. Your metabolism slows as you hit the late twenties... Is that something that could apply to you?

Re: birth control

Yes, there is weight gain associated with taking BCPs. Either you can manage your weight with proper diet and exercise or you can ask for different medication for your acne. There are many other treatments for acne if you are not comfortable with BCPs.

Re: birth control

never take any medication without reading about it on net though at times it may really scare the hell out of you but its for the good most of the time. I truly believe that one cant cure one thing in the expense of the other so think 100 times before taking any such medication. I think i was prescribed the same medicine as you and i searched for it on net and found weird stuff about it so didnt take it. Acne is a problem but can be treated in other ways too just make an effort and avoid bcp if possible. Nowadays doctors say oh come on its the old age talks that the bcps shouldnt be taken for such purposes but its true ofcourse. And with it comes the excessive hair and weight gain which is so not wat you would want especially after getting a preetier face :p. So just relax and see a better doc for your problem. I have a feeling you went to same doc as i did because he was a prick too.

Re: birth control

ive got abit of problems with the birth control pill, im taking it bcoz my periods r irregular and heavy n painful so thr dr put me on it, now i started taking it the 1st day my periods started and then the cycle finished last tuesday and then my periods were supposed to start but they didnt start until sunday :o now i dnt really kno wot to do shall i start takin the pill again after my periods have finished like on monday? im abit confused :s

Re: birth control

Many times acne is associated with harmonal imbalance therefore doctors prescribe bcp. Bcps help with the excessive unwanted hairs but they are associated with weight gain.

Re: birth control

Talk to your doctor. Yours is a different case. However, I think you should take it everyday, like you're supposed to (with the one week placebo).

Re: birth control

soo i was thinking to start tking the pills atleast a month before my wedding which is in august..i went to a gyno and got everything explained...but now im kind of scared after hearing these real life stories.....do u really gain weight? nd wht abt all other side effects?
nd if pills r not the best option than wht other thing do u guys suggest??

Re: birth control

I was prescribed dianette for my acne, i took it for abt 6 monthz, it didnt help watso eva, i would get breakouts all the time, and yes i gained weight coz of it and also it affected my mood, i used to feel down whilst taking it too...didnt help me at all and i stopped taking it...and asked to b switched back to antibiotics, but then again it may work for sum ...but yeh weight gain is sumthing which is strongly associated with it and does affect alot of people!

Re: birth control

i have irregular (periods) monthly cycle. i'm scared is it something serious like i should worry about or its normal... help :(

Re: birth control

^ There are many different causes for it, so you should see a doctor so that they can do the necessary tests.

Re: birth control

i don't care what studies they do on birth control, i'd never take fake hormones everyday for years -- for whatever reason, either preventing pregnancy or acne management. if you think about it, the idea seems so alien.. pumping your body full of hormones for the sake of simulating a chemical "pregnancy" state for an indefinitely amount of time. no thanks.
for birth control, you can use barrier methods with the addition of FAM (fertility awareness method) which is not the same thing as the hokey "rhythm method" at all. FAM helps you be aware of what's going on with your body, and you learn when you ovulate, when your "fertile" days are, and when your non-fertile days are. nothing is 100% foolproof though, and that includes pills and condoms.
good luck :) if you're interested in FAM, check out the book "taking charge of your fertility" by toni weschler.
