Birth Control & Weight Gain!!

So, I know there are sooo many threads out there on the Birth Control topic but has anyone experienced significant weight gain after using BC?

I was on the Pill and after my ectopic pregnancy I was started on NuvaRing to prevent any further miscarriages and to be able to NOT have to worry about taking the pill everyday. But Ive gained sooo much weight and now I cant seem to get it off! Im working out, my portion size is TINY compared to everyone else who eats around me - but I still havent been able to lose the 40 lbs I gained after marriage - that POUCH is dreadful and it makes me feel like Im 6 mnths preggers -
I was discussing this with my sister in law who thinks I should go off birth control and see if Im able to lose weight and if so maybe stick to other methods to prevent having a baby for the time being - I have to go for Hajj so I want to make sure I dont get preggers in the mean time.. any suggestions guys??

Well your sister is right because BC pills does make you gain weight.Try IUD or patch may be they can help.Or have a shot for birth control.I don't exactly remember its name but you can ask gynecologist for different options.

haan well IUD is the same as Nuvaring - the only diff. being that IUD's are placed in for a longer time whereas Nuvaring is removed every three weeks. The shot is called Demarol I think and I dnt think they even allow that anymore because the risks are huge with it -

I did use the pill but it didn't make me put weight on, maybe you should change the brand.

The pouch is probably bloating mostly. Maybe talk to your doc about an alternative. 5-10 pounds is normal.

i used the Evra patch....gained 10-15lbs :(.

could be a combination of factors - eating junk, not exercising

hmmm I have to ask about those two Deeba and PK! I havent ever heard about them -

See Afshi thats the thing I AM exercising like a maniac, Im eating ok (not the greatest but not like FAST FOOD every day or every other day).

The pouch may be bloating but it cant stay there for months at a time.. I mean the size of that thing does NOT decrease.. it only increases and then goes back to the original size it was before the bloat part!
Ive booked an apptment with my gyne for friday lets see what she says!!

Yepp - everytime I go in for ultrasounds they check for that.. but its not PCOS. Apparently the gynea thinks its stubborn fat that wont disappear unless I change eating habits but what else do I have to change/ I mean I dont eat much anyways.. I work out 3-4 times a week for 1.5 - 2 hrs - ugghh this is sooo frustrating I tell ya!

^ the shot is called depo-provera and it is the only thing i gained weight on with massive mood swings and constant spotting for 6 months. it was hell, and i wouldn't recommend it to anyone! i was on yasmin after that and had no complications from it while i was on it. since going off it, my periods are back to being irregular but thats normal in that once you stop any form of birth control, your body adjusts back to what is "usual" for it and in my case, that was longer cycles and heavier periods.

re: your diet, its not just portion control hon, its also what you're eating. if its stubborn fat, then maybe you need to work out more effectively and target the proper area as opposed to just doing the treadmill, if thats what you are doing. diet-wise, you need to eat the right stuff also. try going the low carb route- i just started atkins and it is incredibly easy- the recipes are delicious and are real food, not weirdo shakes and mixes-
i had meatballs for dinner mmmm... lol
it might just what you need to kick start your system since it sounds like you need a change in your routine. are you drinking enough water?
because retaining water can also make you feel super bloated and heavy.
everything is on atkins.com and its all free info so just go with it- phase 1 is only 2 weeks and you should notice an improvement in your general health and energy levels by then.

Thanks a ton SGC! depro-provera is deff the name and I heard soo many horror stories I stayed away from it -

for the eating part yeah I know its probably the bad stuff but Ive controlled that alot - today I had chicken breast and gyro with polynesian salad (thank goodness for costco and ready to toss salads) but it was perfect and then I had oranges for dessert.

I tried atkins and wasnt very fond of it but I love South Beach and was thinking of doing that.
As far as the exercising goes, I hired a trainer and he tells me all the time that the pouch will only go away when your CORE is defined.. and that definition does not come with one day at the gym so iA im gona try and hit the gym 4-5 days a week out of which 3 days are with the trainer. food wise Im hitting the library and taking out books for recipes so that I can have pre-prepped food to eat.. to avoid the JUNK

Are you eating lots of fruits and veggies??? try to eat organic whenever you can I know it can be expensive but in the long run it is ur health... also try eliminating refined sugars and carbs... it might be that ur body is not metabolizing these things.... try it for a couple of weeks and see how you feel externally and internally and go from there....

Nothing worse than hormones being messed up for whatever reason...and it shows up in our weight....

hmmm I dont usually buy Organic but alot of people have told me it makes a difference.. I just have to find a market place closeby that sells organic.. I dont trust shoprite about their organic stuff and costco has the bulk sizes which dont really work when you have only 2 people at home - I dont have a Wegmans closeby but apparently their organic fruits are really tasty!!

if south beach worked for you, then go back on it! and keep in mind that a lot of fruits have a lot of sugar in them too- so maybe instead of an orange, reach for some berries or a grapefruit instead.
its a lot of work and i completely understand/sympathise having been in similar situations, but you just need to be consistent and the weight will come off. and for core, try taking a pilates class. its tough and it hurts in the beginning, but you will see results really quick if you can persist through 3 classes a week on alternate days and then maybe up it to 4 once you're stronger.
and also, do weight training- once you build your muscles up, they are constantly working to burn fat, even when you're at rest and not working out.

also, just cos you're eating organic doesn't mean the weight will come off any faster, so keep that in mind.

how long does the IUD last....I dont want birth control pills ( after baby born inshallah) is there anything else that wont make me put on weight and wont need to be taken daily like a pill...
