That might be another play then. His character in Karawaan was very poor to even afford a beat up car  But he smoked a lot in that serial.

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

well there are local home made ones - you see all these old men and women sitting around chatting and rolling beedees. but the big commercial brand names where i come from is Kaja beedi and dinesh beedi. Kaja has its own wiki page. Kaja Beedi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dinesh beedi is a cooperative society, and its mostly women who roll beedis for them.

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

SO I guess the main diff between Cigar and Beeri is that Cigar is tobacco rolled in tobacco leaf, whole beeri is just rolled tobacco leaf.

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

no man, it is filled with snipped up tiny pieces of tobacco leaf too. it is technically a cigar.

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

no...my friend in my village used to make beeRii as a profession...he still makes beeRiiyaaN...he uses leaves from a certain tree grown in Jabalpur area of India. a small amount of chopped tobacco leves is rolled in leaves and pinched in on one side [the wider end] and tied by a thread on the other thinner end.

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

I’ve had “paan” a few times, but I am not really keen on tobacco, desi varieties or otherwise, because an uncle, who used to be a chain smoker, got lung cancer so I know it’s NOT worth the trouble.

BTW someone mentioned ‘bhang’ here. I have heard that the halwa poori you get from modest dhaba-like places sometimes contains bhang. I wonder if that’s true. :hmmm:
