BiRee or Huqqa

Have you ever smoked any of these?

I tried Huqqa only once, never liked it. BiRee, a friend used to bring for us from interior Sindh. They were just awesome.

What other form of desi smoking tobacco stuff is common in pakistan?

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

Is it common to see people smoking Huqqa in pak villages and towns ? I havent seen that in S India in the present time ,only in pre partition pictures.

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

i tried beeRii once. i coughed and coughed and coughed...i never tried again. i've seen saadhus smoking chilam [pot] in India...i'm sure these chilam have drungs in them like gaanja/charas!

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

initially, Huqqa was more common among Muslims of Northern India...mostly in Nawabi/shehnshaahii cultures but later adopted by non Muslims. Hindus had a hand held Huqqa called ghuRghuRii.

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

My dada and now chacha works as BeeRi Marchant. They employed many workers for making BeeRi. Now with the change of time, the demand of BeeRi decreased, but still 4-5 workers are still employed to fulfill the demand of nearby villages. Younger generation don’t like BeeRi, its more common in baba log :). Its interesting that my Dada run BeeRi business for more than 50 years, but he never smoked and all his sons are chain smokers :bummer:

I’ve seen my Nana and his brother using huqqa.

I never tried any of these things. The situation rural Pakistan is worst when it comes to smoking. You name charas, gaanja, gutka and all that.. Young generation is very much into it.

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

Its not common now. Nowadays sheesha (flavored tobacco) is getting popularity in urban areas.

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

Are biriis same as the rolled up leaf like things that are smoked like cigarettes. We have some thing called beedis which are quite popular in villages and is called the poor man's cigarette .

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

They are same like cigs in shape

I didn’t see much improvement in BeeRi’s reputation even after Gulzar’s mega hit ‘BeeRi jala re’

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

In Pakistan, when we write roman urdu/hindi, we use R to pronounce the sound that you use D for. So we say Dahi BaRaa and you say Dahi Badaa. You and me are talking about the same thing.

Re: BiRee or Huqqa

Most special leaves are Tendu leaves, mostly found in MP, often smuggled to other states:)

Don't smoke tobacco, rest we are okay with:D, drinking is not allowed too, but we have highest per capita consumption in India:D

yes, and every other sardarni(specailly jattnis) think that they are most beautiful women in India, and also the most bravest ones:D, and this confidence appears on our body langauge which enhances our looks, though I found sikhnis are overrated, per person beauty is highest in panditains:)
