I have issues with binge eating. I eat well for a few weeks but then end up eating ridiculous amount and ridiculous things. It doesn’t even have to be anything tasty anything in sight that is mildly edible I eat. Does anyone have any coping strategies
Re: Binge eating
Nom Nom Nom ..me love cookies ..nom nom nom ...but me so fat ..... me must purge ...
Re: Binge eating
At Least I don't purge yuck.
Re: Binge eating
Try to figure out the reason you are eating, there is probably some feeling associated with it (boredom, loneliness). Restriction does not work with me, i need to be able to know i can have any food.
Are you also getting all the nutrients from your food? Are you eating enough protein, healthy fats, fiber? Try cutting out anything that is packaged and just stick to whole foods and home cooking.
Re: Binge eating
One more thing: Try pairing your snacks, like apple with peanut butter/almond butter, veggies with hummus, oatmeal with nuts. If you are having a meal, make sure it has lots of veggies, lean protein, and whole grains. Of course, healthy fat is important as well.
I also believe poor sleep is associated with poor eating habits, so make sure you are getting enough sleep each night.
Lastly, don't mistake your thirst for your hunger.
Re: Binge eating
Great points sidra54. Boredom is my biggest trigger. I usually eat to pass the time :/ sad but true. Days that I am busy and outside I am very mindful of my eating.
Re: Binge eating
Try going out for a 15 minute walk or calling a friend. Staying up too late also equals binge eating.

...and that is exactly what just happened!!
P.S: that spaghetti and meatball was actually good !!! <3

Bold part, so true. @Hmmna i'm just like you, i do a lot of mindless eating too, i'm like, if there's nothing to do, then eat. But i'm trying to change this habit. Recently if i get a craving, when i've already had a meal, instead of gorging down something unhealthy or anything edible , i drink at least 2 glasses of water and check whether i'm still hungry or not. And voila, the craving's vanished. You have to try this method, i'm sure it'll help you.
Re: Binge eating
Hi guys haven't had a major binge as yet. I am trying to keep busy. Drink loads of water which I always have. My problem is too much of everything, I don't necessarily binge on unhealthy stuff. I am actually quite healthy it is just that I eat a lot of it. Am trying to change slowly. One thing I am doing is not finishing what my toddler refuses to eat. I just bin it rather than use myself as the dust bin.

Re: Binge eating
Eat veggies if you want to binge, my rule of thumb is nothing that comes in a processed/canned form like chips, cookies, chocolates, juices, tuna
I eat a lot more than I ever did before my kids, but I do eat 98% of it homemade from scratch so I don't feel guilty because of how much have I had
Try to go for these:
Cherry tomatoes
Celery sticks
Bowl of oatmeal (not packages, but made from rolled oats)
Hummus/pita
Salads (add chicken or fish)
Quinoa - boiled (add raisins/cranberries/cucumber/tomatoes or anything you like, even almonds or coconut flakes)
Glass or 2 of milk (2%)

^ What about eating Royal Gala apples? ![]()
On a serious note, simple rule is to not eat anything. Like other kinds of addictions you need to find something that will take your mind off of such negative habits.
Re: Binge eating
Yup definitely any type of fruit makes a great snack, I am not a fruit person - I know my nick is very contradicting LOLs. My family likes to eat it as such, but I prefer apples only in a smoothie.
But right after a quick workout every time I immediately need grapes/almonds
Re: Binge eating
Major breakthrough: I decided to stop eating in front of the TV/laptop!
