You can watch his shows before he retired 1.5 yrs ago. And if you click on Bill Moyer is back, you can watch last week’s show.
He is one of the kindest, fairest, sincere and most honest journalist I have come across. He is a good man - and gets better with age. Hope you enjoy it.
I thought you spelled Bill Maher wrong. :) Is PBS on the internet?
Coincidentally, Bill Moyers came on Bill Maher's show Friday evening to promote his new show. Other guests included Bernie Sanders (one of the few honest politicians around) and Buddy Roemer, another honest politician who is not able to get into Republican debates because he refuses to accept corporate money - so does not have the $$ so crucial for campaigns.

Wow! There is such a thing as a republican who isnt a corporate robot?

Yes sir!!!!!
Buddy Roemer is a decent politician, who wants to run on ideas, and not money. I would vote for him in a heartbeat over Obama if he gets the nomination - but he does not stand a chance. Either it will be Newt (false outrage) Gingrich or Mitt (Corporations are people) Romney.

Its the Republican ideas I dont agree with, whether corporate financed or not.
Although moderate Republicans, classic republican, who are closer to center on economic issues are generally reasonable, but they have all been squeezed out by the extremists.
By moderate I mean arent trying to turn the country into a Tax free zone, cutting entitlment benfits, and hating anything that sounds even remotely Mexican or Muslim.
I do have a soft spot I admit, for Chris Christie of New Jersey, he atleast seems sincere. Or it could be his hefty size. I mean who could hate a guy that looks like over weight toddler in a suit? :)

I agree the presnt Republican party has become a party of the top 1%. While Christie did stand up for a Muslim gentleman recently (I think he was his pick for some position), overall I find him quite disgusting. He recently had to pay back bills for a chopper he used to see his son playing ball (softball or baseball I am not sure).
Buddy Roemer - I dont know too much about his stance. But he is actually less corrupt than most democratic and republican politicians. He chose not to take money from Corporations and also chose to not have the Super Pac do his work through negative ads against opponents. He only wants to accept individual donations, with an upper limit of $100. In my book, that is honest, ethical and refreshing. He does stand up for the little guy over corporations, from the 2-3 interviews I have seen of him. Have to dig deeper though.
Bernie Sanders (an Independent) is my man - one of the most honest brokers you will find, a compassionate and passionate politician who believs in fairness.

Yes Bernie Sanders is pretty cool. Genrally speaking most people view him positively.
Buddy Roemer I have never even heard off, but will check him out.
Guests were Daveid Stockton (Reagan admin budget director) and Gretchen Morgensen (NY times). DS talked abt his book crony capitalizm while GM talked abt her book (similar theme).
Disussion centered over how since Long Term Capital bailout in 1998, things got only progressively worse. Financial institutions taking risks and getting bailed out by tax payers. New regulations have no teeth. Obama administration appoints folks from a Goldmann Sachs Citigroup revolving door.
As always, program was both informative and interesting.
Republican or Democrat, 'ideas' alone aren't going to change this election anymore than it did the last. The money trail decides the agenda. You know what pisses me off? If anyone has run a grassroots campaign for the past 20+ years, it's Nader. In 2008 he was on the ballot in 45 states (compared to 34 in 2004). This was a huge deal, a significant accomplishment considering the institutionalized, systemic obstacles an Independent needs to overcome just to get their name on the ballot. What happened? Blatant character assassination by the corporate media. Nobody voted for him. I'm in complete awe of the power of PR & propaganda. Nothing short of anarchy is going to change this 2 party oligarchy.
I agree 150%, chaibiskut. I did know these specific numbers for Nader. Elections have become all about raising more money. Nader never sold his soul. Bernie Sanders is another sincere politician.
Obama hired Summers, Reuben, Geitner et al - from Wall Street. Geithner was the same person who made sure Goldman Sachs got 100 cents to the dollar on credit default swaps (or is it insurance on CDOs), when they could have negotiated much tougher terms. He also made sure the AIG executives in the London office (I think) got their full pay/bonus etc.
No one has been arrested from Wall Street (except Rajaratnam - as if he is the only corrupt finance person).
I have no doubt you are familiar with Bill Moyers. In the remote chance you are not, do check his program out,
Todays program is abt the repeal of Glass Steegal (spelling?) act that led to the out of control behavior in Wall Street. One guy ftom Citigroup (Reed?) came and ackoeledged his mistake. Senator Byron Morgan (?) (D) of North Dakota, who at the time in 1999 had questioned the wisdom of the repeal also was a guest.
Reed mentioned how his bouns jumped 3 fold for doing the same thing - the culture starting mid 90s in Wall street changed from customer service to making money.
Senator Byron M criticized Bill Clinton, Alan Greenspand, Sandy Weil among others.
Todays geust was Alexandewr Haidt - wrote a book "what divides good people - politics and religion (something like that). His main point was if we demonize the other side, then no discussion can take place. We live in our respective bubbles.
Bill Moyer put to rest Gingrich's demonization of Saul Alinsky.
Used to watch his old show whenever I could. He epitomizes decency, you can tell just by looking at him. They don't make journalists/men like this anymore. You might enjoy his book, 'Moyers on America: A Journalist and His Times,' - I've read parts of it.
Caught the 2nd half of today's show w/Jonathan Haidt - moral psychology is right down my alley.
