Re: Bill Maher

I would sign. But requires name etc.

Re: Bill Maher

I like that lady, but she really needs to to learn how to talk in a way that doesn’t make it seem that she’s overtaking the whole process.

Re: Bill Maher

I just read the 1st link abt u Cal Berkeley invitation. Which needs 45 more signatures to stop Maher from speaking on campus

Re: Bill Maher

only 45?
I signed it last week.

and you can sign it without your name/details being made public.

Re: Bill Maher

I don’t know why they pout freedom of speech so much.

Re: Bill Maher

you have to admit kakee…relatively speaking, you can get away with a whole lot more in the west than you can in other parts of the world…

Re: Bill Maher

For some countries personal liberty and freedom of speech and action is paramount. I personally think that to ensure human rights for people personal freedom is very necessary.

Re: Bill Maher

Is that such a good thing though? Because a lot of troublesome people say troublesome stuff, but never get reprimanded… although, I find it amusing that even if your son was the bad one the father has to apologize.
Scandal upon scandal for Mino (Japan Zone - Entertainment News from Japan)

In Japan politicians get kicked out very easily when they say messed up stuff. unfortunately this is not the case in America or China.

Re: Bill Maher

In Australia a lot of the things that is ok in America is considered hate speech.

Another thing is that I find there are places in America that are a bit… questionable. Like how some churches think interracial marriages is the greatest sin… or schools banning certain books.

Re: Bill Maher

Ok. When I clicked it asked for all kinds of details.

Normally I am for free speech. I like Bill Maher at times. But he crossed the line on this issue. And is unapologetic

Re: Bill Maher

Its their freedom of thoughts. They can think anything they want, they just cannot force people to follow their thoughts.

Re: Bill Maher

There are definitely flaws.
Allowing people to say what they want is fine as long as the general public is exposed to other points of view as well.
In cases like Maher the system seems to have a self-governing/correcting mechanism built it. He speaks → he looks like an idiot → he gets banned.

Re: Bill Maher

I am all for freedom of speech but this is totally different. These kids are graduating from college and are looking forward to their Graduation ceremony. With commencement speakers like Bill Maher who is a bigot and his comments are generally outright offensive, I wouldn’t be surprised if anyone wants him to give a speech. Commencement speakers are suppose to inspire and motivate new graduates … how does this joker gonna contribute to that?

Re: Bill Maher

Even without his latest views, it is a sign of the times that the University could not find a better speaker than a 2 bit entertainer who I think called Iranians Arabs once. And Pakistan as being in the Middle East.
