This bill has the backing of all political parties in parliament, so inshallah this will be passed soon.
Bill in NA to prohibit marriage to Holy Qur’aan

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday referred a private members bill to prohibit the un-Islamic custom of marriage with the Holy Qur’aan to relevant standing committee. The bill ‘Prohibition of Marriages with Holy Qur’aan bill, 2005’ was moved in the National Assembly by Mehnaz Rafi and MP Bhandara. Tuesday was the private members day and in the absence of the opposition from the National Assembly, the speaker dropped 15 private members bills of the opposition as no members was present to move their bills.
During the process of 18 minutes of the proceedings, the House took up 42 items out of 144 items on agenda of the day. Other movers of the bill to prohibit marriages with the Holy Qur’aan included Dr Farida Ahmed Siddiqui, Miss Gule Farkhanda, Fauzia Wahab, Begum Bushra Rehman, Aisha Munawar, Syeda Farhana Khalid Bannori, Mrs Shahida Akhtar Ali, Maimoona Hashmi, Noor Jehan Panezai, Begum Ishrat Ashraf, Inayat Begum, Yasmeen Rehman, Liaqauat Baloch, Muhammad Laeeq Khan, Dr Attiya Inayatullah, and Samia Raheel Qazi.
However, as no opposition members were present in the House to move the bill, it was moved by members of the treasury benches who were also movers of the bill. Minster for Parliamentary affairs Dr Sher Afgan Khan Niazi did not raise any technical objection to oppose the bill. However he indicated that the government was also working to carry out legislation in this regard. He advised the movers to take back the bill as a goodwill gesture but the movers refused to withdraw the bill. However, later on the minister for parliamentary affairs conceded and did not object to refer it to the standing committee.
