Don't forget the irony either. This is a guy trying to join a club, which until 2008, was considered only for rich white guys, until the guy he is trying to replace paved the way for the likes him. Now he wants to dish out the same treatment to muslims.

Judging by his standards, 70-80% of the clown car masquerading as GOP contenders wouldn't pass this test. Few are wanting to send the army on anti-abortion crusades and one is championing religious freedom in Kim Davis's case.
From what I have read, he was a democrat before he "turned" republican. He is against abortions and yet he did research on fetal tissue as part of his job not so long ago. Such hypocrites make me much more mad than the dumb redneck out on highway 29.

Why are Muslims such a hot topic and punching bag in US politics? The kind of over the top and hostile Islamphobic nonsense I hear form there is unbelievable and depressing.
A Pakistani Muslim has just been nominated as a candidate for Mayor of London (a proper Prime Minister in waiting type post), and it's a hardly an issue over here. Of course right wing press spins its usual editorial propaganda every now and then.

This could very well be orchestrated by GOP. Am sure they dont want a black guy to represent them in the general election.

There was a comment earlier about Islamaphobia in the US. I disagree. The overwhelming majority ridicule the wing nuts. And are appalled at Ahmeds treatment.
The US is a much better place for minorities compared to Europe.

right! to some extent the US seems to be more tolerant, on the other hand hearing a highly educated Nooro Sirgeon, part and parcel of the Rainbo coallition not wanting the color Green as part of his personal defined Rainbow! is a bit disheartening to say the least.

They don't claim to be secular countries though.
Good excuse !!!
That said I am not talking about the country. I am asking about the posters here who claim bigotry on what their response would be if a non muslim tried to be the president of Pakistan.

Today there was a thread opened re pope's visit.
The OP bemoaned legalization of gay marriage and the dying of monotheism. These views are consistent with those of the Christian Conservatives.

England has a lot more Muslims relative to the population, and they are more organized politically. Not so in the US.
Also, the far right in the US is known to scapegoat the weakest segment of society to further their own agenda. Nothing new there.
Its also harder for Muslims to defend themselves considering the news of late. Its hard to espouse the belief that Muslims are peaceful when terrorists groups are murdering people... Normal everyday Muslims find themselves having to defend themselves against the far right in the US, and also fight the image of Islam as portrayed by ISIS among others (including Saudi). Its not easy. You can scream "Islam means peace" till the your throat runs dry, but it only takes one atrocity to undermine your entire effort.
Lastly, people are mentally lazy. There is a ready audience for people who hate Muslims. Those people who havent the interest in learning about actual Muslims or Islam, but lap up any negative news about them. It fuels them and it fuels the politics that run on such xenophobia. Its a self perpetuating circle of hate. People want to hear it, politicians know it so they give it to them, the people hear it from politicians and it goes on.

Bigotry is alive. Everywhere.
One of the GOP candidates, I forget which, said of the Pope that he "isnt a Scientist..." So he shouldnt be talking about climate change...
Stupidity of the statement is palpable.
1. The Pope was a chemist prior to becoming a priest.
2. Republicans refuse to listen to actual Scientists... The vast majority of whom say climate change is real...

Unless you ask Rick Santorum - who states 57 pct of scientists and engineers are skeptical of climate change being human induced.
