There has been a lot of talk about Viv Richards and Garfield Sobers etc etc. But who are the biggest hitters of all time. In my lifetime i have not seen anyone past Afridi and Symonds.
My list is
1.Afridi (only because Symonds does not have a hook shot that he can hit for six)
2. Symonds
3.Viv Richards
4.Garfield Sobers
5.Johan Van Der Wath
and you forgot S. Jaysuria and K. Kaluwithrania.
if your criteria is 6's then its a different story otherwise Jaysuria surpasses Afridi and Symonds easily IMO but Viv Richards and Sobars are way top on the ladder.
Biggest Sixes?
then include Inzy as well - seen him break commentry boxs' mirror.
S. Jasuriya has hit some huge sixers as well. As well as Shoeb Akhtar
^^ yes he is right :k: and in that case you may want to add Imran Khan World cup 92 he hit Illingworth dead straight and 3/4 stories (tier) high in the MCG stands.
Our dear old Mohammad Sami has also hit a six in his lifetime. Just when we thought Sami cannot hit a six to save his life, he went and did the unthinkable, and heaved one over mid-wicket. The umpire had a shock look on his face and was forced to raise his hands.
I would include A. Razzaq and Jayasuria. When they hit, it's "outta da park" as said by Waqar. Lolz.
Symonds and also, Gilchrist are very strong hitters as well. I remember the name Ricardo Powell of WI as well.
Umer
I have seen Wasim Akram hitting the biggest six ever. In Adelaide Oval, straight over the head of bowler (Craig Mcdermott). Mind you that Adelaide for a long time has the longest straight boundary in cricket (more than 100 Yards, normally it is around 70 yards on other grounds). I have seen people running for 5 runs and ball not reaching the boundary. Pitty for the fielder. I remember Azharuddin hit a straight shot and ball stopped 5 or 6 yards inside the boundary and the batsman ran for 5 runs.
Razzaq is also one of the biggest hitter. Brett Lee can also hit pretty far.
The thing with Razzaq is he is not truly a big hitter. He can only hit far when th ball is pitched up. He lacks the early deception of the length of the ball that Afridi has and that is the difference. Afridi is able to hook and pull for six. whereas Razzaq needs bad half volleys to hit cleanly.
