Where are people getting this figure from?
ICC’s main source of revenue is TV and sponsorship rights generated from ICC events, NOT funding from BCCI. The surplus revenue is equally distributed among all full member countries.
Yes, it would be the case that 80% of those sponsorships come from Indian companies. Now, these companies are not doing cricket a great favor sponsoring events. They do get mass exposure through these events which eventually benefits them. Why should only ECB, CA and BCCI benefit more from such income? BCCI is just leveraging the fact that if Indian team does not participate in ICC events, they would not get as much sponsorships as they do now. That is BLACKMAIL.
Even if you argue that funding and power should remain with the board providing most funding, then why include ECB and CA? If 80% is the correct figure, why not give 80% powers to Indian board and 2% each to the rest of the members?
The game would benefit immensly if spread into developed and developing countries of Europe and East Asia. Restricting cricket to few countries would eventually hurt all stakeholders.
