Not sure if this is the right place to post, but thought I’d give it a shot anyway!
I want to get a few maxi dresses made, but I’ve noticed that a lot of designers can’t always get the cut right, and it makes the dress look less pretty. I dunno if it’s because of the amount of material that’s used, or because of the cut/shape of the dresses themselves which are hard to copy. Has anyone been able to get a genuinely swishy/full-skirted dress made by any designers?
I’m looking at designs like these:
A lot of designers that I have approached can get the colours/kaam right but they can’t do the full-skirted look which I want above.
Any one recommend any designers I can get this made from? I’m working on a budget which is why I can’t go to a shop and spend a lot of money there, or order from any expensive designers.
If anyone has any pictures of dresses that’s been made as well by any GS designers or non-GS ones, of swishy dresses that you can recommend, please show me!
Yeah I’ve seen some with netting to make it stick out, but I don’t like that, and not all of them have this.
I had a dress a couple of years back and to make it ‘fuller’ the designer used loads and loads of extra fabric to make it thicker. It kinda worked but then it came out pretty expensive and ended up having too much fabric. Plus the designer p’eed me off so I’m never going back to her again.
^ i bet you wore it without your wonder woman tiara! :p
that is a ridiculous pose for a lovely outfit.
i think with outfits like these, the amount of fabric plus the cut is key, so i can see it being expensive. also cos you want nice, drapey fabric which is usually pricier.
Ummm let me put it this way, its 40% about the cut, 40% about the actual fabric and 20% with the fabric layered below. I got a maxi-dress made for Eid by my darzi and on her recommendation I got it made in pure Chiffon as the top-most layer, and underneath it was a layer of french crepe. Both fabrics being very flowy the dress turned out very MashaAllah, But it was very pricey as my tailor has insisted on getting the purest variety of both.
whtever u do, dnt get the underskirt made of net, it will only give u a crinoline effect :bummer: my cousin got my idea executed using a net underskirt and she calls her blunder an umbrella-dress.
I was thinking the same thing, my sister got her engagement outfit from London and the shape of it was very similar to the pics of the green and blue one I posted - but it came to around £500 and had a lot of net underneath to puff it up. I was just hoping to get something cheaper!
Will do
Can’t remember who designed the black one, the light blue/purple one is by someone called Beena Soni, I think based in UAE: .:: Beenas - Designer Jalabiyas::.](http://www.beenas.ae/)
The skirt is cut on a bias cut, meaning on an angle to take advantage of the entire width of the fabric. The fabric tends to be a wider bolt, 90" wide instead of the usual 60". And as several others have mentioned, lining for volume. I disagree, however, that the lining need be expensive. Don't cut corners, but you don't need to invest a huge amount of money in a lining, ask for a good quality lining material, not a good quality material overall, and you should find what you need.
Mat hatter you can contact us at [EMAIL="[email protected]"][email protected] as a startup our prices are pretty much equal to the cost we incur on a dress so will be within your budget.
For this kind of flow in a dress specially as seen in the second picture, you'll need to wear a net petticoat. Any dress with a good fall and a stiff net petticoat will give this look.
I'm curious.......all you folks that are asking her to contact you in email.....please post your pricing here so that the rest of us can know what this sort of outfit will cost.....

I don't mind mentioning the price as long as I have all the details. All the dresses she posted have different type of fabric and style. If you would like a quote on a particular dress, I'll be happy to post the quote in public =)
