I want to get a few maxi dresses made, but I’ve noticed that a lot of designers can’t always get the cut right, and it makes the dress look less pretty. I dunno if it’s because of the amount of material that’s used, or because of the cut/shape of the dresses themselves which are hard to copy. Has anyone been able to get a genuinely swishy/full-skirted dress made by any designers?
I’m looking at designs like these:
A lot of designers that I have approached can get the colours/kaam right but they can’t do the full-skirted look which I want above.
Any one recommend any designers I can get this made from? I’m working on a budget which is why I can’t go to a shop and spend a lot of money there, or order from any expensive designers.
If anyone has any pictures of dresses that’s been made as well by any GS designers or non-GS ones, of swishy dresses that you can recommend, please show me!
the only person I know of who can replicate these dresses is a designer named Sehar Khosa, her line is called Allechant, type Allechant sehar khosa facebook, and her page will come up! She has pics of big swishy dresses and her tailors can make exactly these cuts! I simply cant afford to purchase from her regulary, but for my sisters wedding I will be getting 2 dresses by her and I have friends who purchase from her. I dont know if that helps!
I have made lots of flowy, flaired dresses (according to clients requirement) and can easily create something like that as well. But this type of style needs lotsss of extra fabric and (a skinny figure;) ). you can check my FB page : Facebook OR the following link of the flaired dresses:
Designs like these can be replicated but most of the time, clients looking to purchase from us home-based vendors are not willing to pay for the amount of fabric that goes into these and the tailoring costs that accompanies it. Since we have to modify the dresses to fit into the clients budgets, they may not look as flairy as these. Other than the fabric, to get the fall of the dress right, simple frock with gathers or A-line cuts won’t give you the look. It may have the same width of flair but to have the same fall, the dresses need to have box pleats / panels and additional tailoring charges apply to that.
All i’m trying to say is that its not that we, home-based vendors, are not able to get it right, it’s just that we get the dresses modified to fit into the clients budget.
^Yes, I see CB. I don't mean to offend anyone's skills/ability to design these types of flowy/swishy dresses, it's just that a lot of examples of replicas don't have the cut I'm looking for, and lots of pictures show A-Line dresses rather than the 'fuller-skirted' type. Like you said, a lot of the time it must be the client's budget rather than the ability of the tailor.
I'm more than willing to have a look at different designers to see if I like the cut of their designs, and I understand that there is a lot of fabric used with the shape I want, so I know that if there is a good cut, I'm getting good value for money. I'm not trying to be a cheapskate, I'm just trying not to over-spend if I can't afford to that's all, if I really can't afford it cos it's TOO expensive then I just won't get it. I dunno.
