So Pakistan is the 6th country with the highest population (UN/wiki).
Why are there so many of us, considering how small Pakistan is and how limited resources are for citizens?
Is it because we like to have big families or that there is lack of birth control/ family planning?
I understand that many people who have daughters first reproduce until they have a boy or two, as the case with my family, so I believe that is a legit reason for a big family. I know someone in Pakistan who has six daughters!
But there are people who have boys first yet they still have lots of children.
Don’t take this the wrong way. I love that there are so many of us, but many in Pakistan are poor and can’t afford a large family, yet they have one.
btw, India is number 1 on the list.
For few its the only source of entertainment. For few its a matter of religion. For few its for the continuation of bloodline. Few think its all about quantity and not quality. Few think lets have a lot, at least one will be good out of whole bunch. Few don't like the youngest of all, so they try not to have one. So for everyone there is a reason.
But I think big family is cool. As long as you can afford them all.
I think that is the way life is for a lot of people...get married and have kids. Its the next step in life and as long as you're procreating...you're doing a great job!
However, people should be more responsible about their family planning and have as many as they can support successfully.
Most of the population in Pak is extremely poor, they have no access to birth control or healthcare. No way to prevent pregnancy and not enough income to provide health care for their children. Many children of the poor die at very young ages - Pakistan has one of the worst infant mortality rates in the world. So if you're poor and give birth to many kids, theres a pretty good chance that only a couple of them will reach adulthood. And sadly, the very poor actually need sons to help with the family income.
There is a big mis concept that quantity is inversely related to quality. But this is wrong. So one should emphasis on quality also. if the quality is good there is no problem for quantity.

exactly
i did a project on pakistans high population during my final year of school
The main thing is lack of education for the majority of pakistani women, this means they cannot access contraception or health care. So they have many children and out of the many children they have only few survive. So for the majority its not a choice its just the way it is.
In countries which are trying to reduce their birth rate one of the main things they do is educate their women and make contraception very widely avaialable.
Singapore is an example of a country where the government made sure its women reached high levels of education and guess what the population went lower and lower and lower with time.
If you read about population demographics in any geography book its really interesting and explains alot of these questions.
i love big families... altho they come with big problems i still love em =) if i wasn't afraid of child birth id probably have about 6 =D (i doubt i cud have that many) but gooo big families
but my reason wudnt b to have boys altho id love both for a balance it wud be for all the noise around me altho i can see myself regretting that later on =)
One of the inverse effect to pak Govt's family planning movement was, that educated ppl , who could have taken care of 4-5 kids and could give them proper education, started having less babies like 2-3 And low income segment did not get Govt's message and still have big families 6-9 kids.
Put things out of proportion.
if it's a mater of populating the world with more muslims then i'd rather have one good muslim kid who's gonna show the world what a muslim really is, than many kids who turn out to be idiots.
ppl r uneducated, dont hav money or access to birth control, at times they r misinformed abt such methods n do not want to use.
anyways whtvers hapenin here one of the major causes is huge huge population (trust me its a lot more than the govt census figure ) n vvv limited resources . all of pakistan s ills r coz of this uncontrolable population boom . its more like a tickin bomb .
i don't think its matter of free access. its more a matter of acceptance. many orthodox males n in-laws don't allow women to practice birth control. i know a friend who got coil inserted secretively but once her husband found out she had to get it out. but where women r more independent they do take measures.

I love big families too .... all of u against big families, have u been part of one ?
what i have observed, one factor as stated above to have a male heir /supporter in the family.
second awareness and education to some extent.
third and main problem, un employment. you will some poverty stricken families, mostly without jobs or regular work have more children and also tend to offload in early age and marry them too young creating a multiple spiral effect.
un employed, nothing to do people will have more time in reproductive activities!
we do need to work on education, health and economy to create jobs.
but i think the massive roll out on family planning/not just adds on the TV, but provide assistance and access at locality level free of cost will have more effect.
due to lack of awareness, many people giving birth to un wanted children, who are in turn get less care a constructive person need.
now people who can afford, i dont think there is problem there. If one can care and educate more children that will be good for future as well
imagine, birth control having effect only on the educated and well off people. and no effect on poor and un educated ones.
in very few years you will end up in population that are uneducated/ un skilled and very few with skills and had better training.
