Every single hotel I have stayed in, I have noticed a Bible in one of the drawers. What is the story behind this tradition?

^^ True indeed, I've stayed at about 20 hotels in the past 3 years, all had bibles.
If you want to know who started the phenomenon of placing Bibles in hotel rooms, the credit goes **The Gideons. **
An evangelical organization founded over 100 years ago by two traveling salesmen, Gideons International now distributes more than 59 million bibles every year. That’s about one million every week, or 112 per minute.
Initially conceived as a Christian organization of “traveling men,” in 1908 the group dedicated itself to providing a bible for every hotel room in America…
But according to the American Hotel and Lodging Association. Since 2001 the number of luxury hotels with religious materials in the rooms has dropped by 18 percent … so ya know where its going 
Btw i was just wondering … Providing Bibles … would it mean the hotel “would have to take care of every guest’s belief.” :aq:
Interesting observation. But do you really want Quran in every hotel room of US ? They might be desecrated just for the heck of it. I guess best alternative is to carry one with you. Now a days the technology has made it easy to carry one. There are tons of websites with Quran on them, there are mobile phone versions , mp3 and iPod version and finally little electronic Quran versions.

the better a hotel higher the probability that it will not have a bible in it.
I thought so too, but even the some of the exclusive Hiltons and Sheratons have Bibles... only that they are better quality and the paper smells good! :o

dekhain ji, i did not find a single bible in my room at club med or in hard rock hotel- vegas.
and as I said, it increases the probability that there are no bibles, it does not guarantee the absence.

The question is, how many drawers did you open... and if you did, what were you looking for or trying to hide?

Well it should not be a matter to worry for anyone, USA is a Christian dominating country and its laws and rules are more towards Christianity, one can always expect this! and to me its not an issue!
In middle eastern countries ( KSA specially) you will find Quran-e-Kareem and Jai-Namaaz in almost every hotel / motel! and people do use it :)
