BIBLE

As we know this book of God today. Please shed some light on its contents and the contributors and time periods each part was written in or represent.

I know these three major parts.

Old Testament
New Testament
Gospels

And how many major versions are in circulation these days and who belives in which?

Roman Catholics
Orthodox
Evanglicans
Church of England
Mormons
Johavah Witness

Re: BIBLE

from what i know so far, Bible has only 2 parts:

Old Testament
New Testament

Bible is also called Gospel its not a part of Bible.

Non-Catholic's Bible has only 66 books in it, whereas Catholic Bible has 73 books.

Versions: These days its NIV edition.

Re: BIBLE

Christians call the whole Bible “the Gospel” sometimes. The first four books in the New Testament are each called a Gospel. I suppose this could lead to confusion.

The Bible is a collection of books and combines the religious books of the Jews (Old Testament) and Christians (New Testament). Testament means Covenant. Old Testament/Covenant was the agreement/contract God made with the Hebrews as a nation. New Testament/Covenant refers to the contract/agreement of Jesus as representative of God with humankind.

An additional group of about 16 Old Testament books were included in the Greek Jewish Bible (Septuagint) and Latin Christian Bible (Vulgate) and this is the present difference between the Roman and Orthodox Catholic Church Bibles and the rest of Christianity. These books were not included in the Hebrew Jewish Bible (e.g. Masoretic Text). These books are referred to as Old Testament Apocrypha. Various good reasons exist why these books are not included in the known Bibles of today, the major one being their not being included in the Hebrew Old Testament.

The NIV is the most correct version with the ASV running second. The NIV is considered the best Bible translation/version in English today because it used the oldest texts available, refer to all other major texts in footnotes, was translated by such a large number of scholars from different denominations, and follow the text truthfully.

Version only refers to the difference of translation and language. There exist a number of texts from which these versions are translated from. In general, except where the translators/compilers wished to change the meaning of scripture as the Jehova’s did in their New World Translation, there is few differences as to the theme and meaning from the Bible.

Re: BIBLE

I can't shed light on Bible but I do believe in some parts which are similar to the Qur'an.

Re: BIBLE

wat abt the gospel of barnabas?

Re: BIBLE

i've heard some christians don't believe in gospel of barnabas.........but i do with those parts who are similar with the quran

Re: BIBLE

It was written after 100BC and never considered as part of the original books that the New Testament consisted out off. There are a vast number of books/articles written after 100BC that get every now and then a write-up as some old manuscript is again found (the latest being the Gospel of Judas).

Since it never was considered by the people in the first 200 years after Jesus to be of scriptural value, they are read as interesting old papers. Some of these papers/books are even forgeries made after 1000BC.

Re: BIBLE

One should either accept the whole or nothing. It is either truth or false.

Re: BIBLE

@ old man

thnx

Re: BIBLE

The books from God have been currupted by the people..............only Qur'an is the Last and Final book that can distinguish between right and wrong...........
and No one can ever change Qur'an.....

Re: BIBLE

^^ Is anyone here talking about fabrication of these books? We all and even Chritians know about the changes and corruption. So please stick with the topic, don't be a policeman.

Re: BIBLE

The Roman Church has declared the Gospel of Barnabas as 'unauthentic' and 'blasphamous' - although for centuaries christians had been following it. The reason why tend to keep away from Barnabas is due to the appearance of the beloved Prophet name, letter to letter - Muhammad [PBUH], and him coming as the final prophet after Isa [PBUH] have left.

funny thing - recently having a conversation with one of my "new" athiest friend - about Gospel of Juda, my christian friend got offended...and did not had anything to say -
And when they meet those who believe, they say: We believe; and when they are alone with their Shaitans, they say: Surely we are with you, we were only mocking.Allah shall pay them back their mockery, and He leaves them alone in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on.
These are they who buy error for the right direction, so their bargain shall bring no gain, nor are they the followers of the right direction.
Their parable is like the parable of one who kindled a fire but when it had illumined all around him, Allah took away their light, and left them in utter darkness-- they do not see.
** Deaf, dumb (and) blind, so they will not turn back.**
*****Quran, 2:14 - 2:18]*

Re: BIBLE

I think there is a goodnews about the coming of the Prophet Muhammad(saw) in the Gospal and they have his(saw) name mentioned in it.........that can be the reason that they don't like it..........sorry i read your post after posting my post....i've written same thing

The Roman Church has declared the Gospel of Barnabas as ‘unauthentic’ and ‘blasphamous’ - although for centuaries christians had been following it.

Fewer than 0.001% of Christians know of the Gospel of Barnabas and fewer read it. Surely one can’t say “Christians had been following it”?

Re: BIBLE

^ 0.001% :rotfl:

nice stats…

Most christians know about it - and refrain from talking about it as they think that the book is giving wrong message :omg:

Re: BIBLE

Any proof?

The document seem to have been written after 1000AD by a Muslim.

Re: BIBLE

Any proof?

Re: BIBLE

^ Gospel of Barnabas was compiled about 200 C.E or even earlier - and was accepted by the church until 350 C.E. or so...

Re: BIBLE

Shame, such eagernest but also such ignorance!

You confuse The Epistle of Barnabas with The Gospel of Barnabas. You even give the link to the Epistle of Barnabas but did not take the time to read your own link! According to the Epistle of Barnabas:

 1. The old jewish law is replaced by a new Law given by Jesus Christ
 2. Jesus is named Christ and Messiah
 3. Jesus is called “Son of God”
 4. Jesus was crucified
 5. Jesus died for all humankind’s sins
 6. Mohammad’s name never appear in Epistle

You see, I (unlike you) HAVE read the Epistle and knows what it is all about. Even though the Epistle is very like all the books in the New Testament, it was not widely accepted by the scholars in the first 2 centuries and therefor remain outside the current Bible.

The Gospel of Barnabas, on the other hand, was written after 400BC and modified until maybe 1600BC. Completely a different story!

Your last link to barnabas.net is a site propagating the Gospel with no real evidence. A much better article can be found here

Don’t fret though, we all learn something new each day. We just need to not make wild statements when we lack proper knowledge… :flower1:
