Why are/were relations so bad between the Army and the Bhuttos? Of course there is the killing of ZAB by Zia and BB fighting against martial law. However, Zia died in a plane crash so should nt the rift have healed?
What ways have the Army and Bhuttos obstructed each other? Should nt the army be thankful to the Bhutto’s because ZA was supposed to have been instrumental in Pakistan’s nuclear programme? I have rarely met army staff who have been kind about the PPP and Bhutto’s. Also many PPP supporters are very anti-army.
I would love to hear some insight into this power struggle.
@ Amal - it is complicated and one I fully do not understand but I want to know more about it. The Bhutto's both father and daughter are probably Pakistan's most 2 popular leaders out of our short history. Why would the army feel the need to thwart them?
And then they (Indians) complain that we open threads about their internal affairs.....
What part of his/her post is offending to you ?
OP is trying to understand dynamics of Bhutto's vs Army if there is any such thing. If you think there is nothing to it then say what you like and move on.
If we look at the history or Pakistan, we see a ping pong game between Army dictators rule and Democratic rule. For obvious reasons, one hate the other and vice versa. Most of the recent democracy of Paksitan is filled with Bhuttos and PPP, so its obvious that main rivalry would be between Army and this family (and their faction of PPP)

It is exactly because of this reason.
Army never wants to allow a popular leader, as they would lose their power, and not be able to fill their pockets with money.
.. Or maybe army wanted its share after bhuttos share after which nothing was left in the nineties. At least with army or gunja rule, there is something put into the treasury unlike PPP, which is a curse on Pakistan.

Re-read your history. Army rule has been the most corrupt and murderous in Pakistan's history.

Other than Bangla episode and drone attacks what else is there for 'murder'? However as far as corruption goes we have seen 1970s, 1990s is not too far when two jokers started plundering taking turns. To me, it is a difficult pick between who is corrupt most between army or so called democracies.

Murder- Baloch operations, MRD movement, ISI murders of civilians, I could go on.
Regarding corruption, I would agree with you, but say politcians also face some accountability.
No General has ever been jailed for his many crimes.
ZAB's operation in Balochistan is an acknowledged mistake.
Since that time, 30-40 years ago, who has been murdering Balochi's everyday??
Do you also accept complicity in the east pakistan debacle or "mistake" as well? There was also an operation in karachi that had a lot of collateral damage and it wasn't restricted to the criminals.
When Bhutto supported Ayoub Khan against Mutrma Faitma Jinnah? or When Bhutto was appointed as Foreign Minister?
or Later when despite Losing Elections of 1970, army was well bound to bring him into power? or when Army appointed him Chief Marshal law administrator?
Yes then army hanged him, thats what army does to puppet they create..

Going down and down day by day .
Bhutto was a young man who started his practical life in those days when first martal law was changing into so called democracy , That was the time when people were not aware of the result of military rule . Naturally bhutto joined it but there were many more in that time , Bhutto was intelligent and hard worker so went up . He was not hanged in Ayoub times but hanged when was elected by people of Pakistan . Historicall puppets of army belpnged to a specifed area of Pakistan .
I woul say the only opposition to the Army has been from the PPP - at least they have some check. Has Benazir made any deals with the army? Has the PPP tried to restrict the activities of the army?
