Bhutto, Musharraf discuss APDM threat to boycott polls

Islamabad, (PTI) Former Pakistan Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, met President Pervez Musharraf here, and the two discussed the threat by an opposition alliance led by deposed Premier Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N to boycott the January general elections.

Bhutto, who arrived here from Karachi on Wednesday, met Musharraf some time late Wednesday night after he stepped down as the Army Chief, ARY-1 channel reported Thursday, quoting sources.

Tariq Aziz, Secretary of National Security Council, was involved in talks between Musharraf and Bhutto. Some leaders of Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) also participated in the meeting, the channel said.

It said the meeting discussed the threat of boycott of January 8 polls by All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM), an opposition grouping which includes hardline alliance Muttahida Majlis-e Amal, Sharif’s PML-N and Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e Insaf.

Bhutto, who returned to Pakistan on October 18 from self-exile, has so far been non-committal on Sharif’s call to boycott the polls.
