A budget for the wealthy By Benazir Bhutto, Special to Gulf News
The Pakistan budget for the coming fiscal year 2005-06 is a budget for the rich. Iociety. It can generally be called business friendly but it fails to meet the expectations of the common man.
It is shameful for our government not to consult Benazir and Nawaz Sharif before announcing budget. They definitely had better ideas about how to benefit the rich, keep the middle-class just live and getting rid of poor people by making things even worst for them .:D :D
It is very commonm to say that Musharaf Govt. is not legal, even I believe in it. But for at least in my life, Ihave never seen Pakistan and its Gov. this much stable and it is improving rapidly. This is perhaps the first government that has tried to work on real issues like generating more jobs (in Telecom, IT, ....), building new schools, over-hauling the infrastructure of Railways, WAPDA, .....
i cannot believe you also said that and joined the bandwagon…just think about it…what if this article was written by someone else whom you trusted more…i mean you have to look into the content of the essay too, not just the name of the author…God bless you…
phoenix how could you assume my comment was without regard to what was in the article? Anyhting to do with the name Bhutto does seem dubious and you cant blame me for that it's only their own doing, and in this case too the contents of her prophecizing article on economics and planning comes like a sarcastic joke against the ppl of Pakistan. She of all ppl will now lecture the nation and the world about where Paksiatns economy is headed or where according to what she perceives it should head...?
a lot of ppl who i think are better anaylsts than Benazir but still lack the ability to put the complete picture of economic planning together also came up with similar analysis, this makes her report more of a rip off aswell...the typical "it's a rich man's budget" and "theres no poverty reduction" "there so much inflation" etc are regular whinings. I agree with all of it, as i suffer from it too, but i also try to reason and think that the govt doesnt have the magic lamp and drops and drops would one day make an ocean. if a loaf of bread can be bought for Rs 15 now and it's expensive and the budget didnt bring it down to Rs 10, it is too bad, but atleast the govt HAS strated paying off the debts to look at the least positive...maybe children born 10 yrs from now will one day have a better lifetime...national budgeting is not like family budgeting, thats smthng where many analysts are confused thinking it's as simple as cut here and spend there, save here invest there...unfortunately it's not as simple...God belss you too.
