Even Rediff has different versions of the incident provided via it's own links.
It looks like (and I may be wrong) that some followers of Hinduism wanted to do some "band-baja" somewhere close to the non-Hindu areas. When non-Hindus objected, the band-baja people started pelting stones and the thingy escalated.
Roping in politicians (swines) is always a good thing, However we shouldn't forget the lack of tolerance on part of Hinduism's followers.
