Criminal cases have been filed by the authorities against several politicians after religious riots in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Eight people were killed in the riots that broke out between Hindus and Muslims after a dispute, during a Hindu festival in the town of Mau.
The area has been under indefinite curfew since the riots last Friday.
The state government has also ordered an inquiry into administrative lapses in controlling the clashes.
Allegations
A local legislator, Mukhtar Ansari and some other local leaders affiliated to the Bharatiya Janata Party have been accused of inciting religious clashes.
The authorities said police teams have been sent to arrest Mr Ansari.
Mr Ansari has denied the allegations.
He told the BBC that he had tried to pacify the people and taken the injured to hospital.
Mr Ansari demanded that the federal agency - Central Bureau of Investigation- should probe the incident.
Officials say eight died and 36 were seriously injured after clashes broke out following a dispute during the Hindu Dussehra festival.
Authorities say the curfew in the eastern town of Mau town is likely to be relaxed for some time on Wednesday as situation is gradually returning to normalcy.
Senior civil servant Alok Sinha made this announcement in a news conference in the state capital, Lucknow, after returning from Mau.
Train services will also be resumed on Wednesday, he said.
More than 300 people have been arrested for violating an indefinite curfew that has been in effect in the area since Friday.
Inquiry
Additional riot control police and paramilitary forces have also been deployed in the area.
Several local passenger trains have been cancelled for the third day in eastern parts of the state while some long-distance trains are being diverted to other routes.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has temporarily dismissed several top district officials and started an inquiry into administrative lapses in controlling the riots.
Mau is located near the historic city of Varanasi and has a predominantly Muslim population.
The town is known for its traditional weaving of silk saris.
Last week’s clashes has resulted in huge financial losses for the people in the town.
