bhangra

ok laydees, i need yer help!

half our wedding guests are goras. none of them know how to do the bhangra. for that matter, i have no idea either. d’oh. so i was thinking i’d have everyone over the weekend before the wedding and we could watch some indian movies/songs where people are doing the bhangra so they can kind of get an idea of what has to happen. i dont watch indian movies that often, so i need to know, what movies have good bhangra dance songs in them? and are there any particular indian songs, even if they’re non-bhangra, that people like to dance to?

Re: bhangra

oh what the fudge- i posted the thread twice. mods, can ye please remove one of them? thanks!

Re: bhangra

oh fun we had the same situation..we actually showed them some videos of pakistani shadis to go over the customs and dancing...(we got the video as samples for the guy we used as our videographer)

I wouldn't worry to much about Bangra only..just get some punjabi shadi songs almost every recent hindi film has one track that is dance :)

Re: bhangra

Ohhh this brings back memories from when i got married nearly 4 yrs ago! At my health club they actually have bollywood dance classes and bhangra classes and they r so popular esp with english ppl. They had more english ppl then asian ppl in them. Personally I just wanted ppl to enjoy themselves and not b totally choreographed liked professional dancers cos heck most of them had 2 left feet anyway!:D Many of my hubs friends(my hubs white) came from the West of England where they really had no exposure to asian ppl but bless them they did really well considering. But i remember them really being into the food saying it was the best wedding meal they'd eva had. Steve (my hub)had neva danced to anything like this in his life but he actually did well on the day and he neva dances cos hes quite reserved like that so it was a big deal that he danced at our wedding let alone to bhangra. I think the ideas ppl have given on here r good tho. Depends on how well choreographed u wanted them to b but uve just gotta remember they're not gonna totally get it cos the music is very different to what they're used to.:)

Re: bhangra

u know once they watch everyone else dancing in the wedding they'll pretty much get the hang of it. and its more fun if everyone's doing their own thing. when my uncle got married we had the desis doing bhangra and my uncle's boss was an old gori lady who did the waltz with my uncle on a punjabi song....it was so cute. and then there was this other non-desi woman that got the hang of the bhangra moves pretty quick. if u can do hip hop u can do bhangra.
