Feel like crying… my baby has not been getting enough milk …the supply was really good till last night… baby has been crying and sucking … and not sleeping… now I just fed Jr. with some pumped milk from 2 days ago… what do I do… I do not want to turn to formula..and Jr. sucks well and latches on good too…
Any ideas to whats going why the dip all of a sudden
no I'm not fasting... and baby has been crying non-stop and not sleeping well so before feeding baby I pumped to see but I couldn't even get 1 ounce out...and I used to get 4-5 ounces in one pumping session...
From your earlier posts, I recall that you were delivering in a slightly stressful situation. Sometimes women experience a drop in milk supply due to stress and anxiety. Do you think that could be part of the problem?
How old is your baby? It's very possible that JR is having a growth spurt and wants to stay latched 24-7. That doesn't mean your supply is insufficient.
Pumping is tricky, as women often don't get the same amount pumping as the baby can extract.
It is unusual for milk supply to drop so suddenly. Is it just the pumping that's making you think the supply has dropped?
How often do you feed? When/How often do you pump?
A few tips to increase supply that work for lots of people: oatmeal, almonds, sleep, methi seeds
I was in a stressful situation, but am not anymore alhamdulillah just the usual stresses.... work not done, laundry not done... but nothing major...
Jr. usually has white lips, is calm and goes to sleep easily after he nurses and past 24 hours he hasn't done that... and wants to remain latched on...falls asleep sucking, and cries (like he is hungry) when I take him off, and doesn't have the white lips....
I usually pump daily and get at least 4-5 ounces but this last pumping was way less than an ounce.... I feed on demand.....
I used to take fenugreek and fennel seeds to increase my supply but have slacked off...
white lips sounds like thrush, is it spotty white like milk is still on his lips? i say get him checked by the dctr because if its thrush that could b a reason to y he is not feeding well hence ur supply going down perhaps?
Definitely check about thrush, as sweetu suggested.
The breastfeeding purists will tell you not to supplement, and that the suckling will help you up your supply to meet your baby's needs. That's usually true. But for me the stress and uncertainty of it all was making me miserable to be around and not sufficiently calm for her. Telling myself it was okay to supplement really helped me. Maybe you won't need to supplement, but if you do, it's okay.
