Re: Bewasre Of chemically-laced mehndi in widespread use

“Black,” henna is either indigo, or PPD powder. It is the same compound that’s found in synthetic dyes. However, it can burn your scalp if you use it on your hair, and it can cause scarification on your skin where it is applied, and sensitize you to ppd. If you have experienced a reaction to black “henna,” do NOT EVER dye your hair with ANY synthetic dye again, or let it be applied to your skin. It can shut down your liver and kidneys and kill you. It’s not an exaggeration.

I’d also like to add that a lot of henna that’s conisdered 100% henna is not at all, many companies add green powder into it so that it looks fresher. Unfortunately, if you use this in your hair, your hair can turn green and fall out.

Always buy from reputable sellers. Jamila is highly recommended in Pakistan itself (as long as you demand bridal export quality), and there are tons of importers here in the states.
