Because history shows that Sri Lanka wants to immediately achieve what the other two Asian Giants (Pakistan and India) have already achieved. Its my personal analysis which could be wrong.
Immediately after India and Pakistan both had become world champions of ODI, Sri Lanka got the title too in 1996.
Immediately after Pakistan and India lost to Australia in final of ODI world cup, Sri Lanka also reached final and lost to Australia in 2007.
Now both India and Pakistan have the title of World T20, Sri Lanka is hungry to repeat the past trend.

Btw, history also shows that the more India groom their players under the shadow of world class international players in IPL and ban Pakistani players, the poorer their performance becomes in world T20 :D
