Match fixers and bookies are going to have a field day with this --------------------------------------------------------
New Delhi: Late innings batting collapses and a not-upto-the-par bowling attack notwithstanding, the bettors have tipped India to not only beat Australia in the quarterfinal on Thursday, but to go the whole distance and lift the Cup on April 2 at the Wankhede in Mumbai.
India take on four-time and defending champion Australia, whose 34-game World Cup unbeaten streak was halted by Pakistan on Saturday. The loss to Pakistan will only awaken them and even though a tight game is expected, top betting site Ladsbroke has reportedly given India favourable odds at 8/13, while for the Aussies, the figure is 5/4. Williamhill too has tipped India at 4/6 to beat Australia.
The favourable odds seem to stem from Australiaâs loss to Pakistan that has finally exposed the chinks in their once watertight armour. Even though Australia bounced back after the Ashes loss to hand England a 6-1 drubbing in the ODI series, there is no denying the fact that the current crop of players who have replaced the likes of Glenn McGrath, Steve Waugh, Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist are not a patch on the stalwarts.
According to bettors, South Africa and Sri Lanka are the next two closest favourites to India to lift the Cup. According to Ladsbroke, India are likely to meet either of the two in the final and the odds in both scenarios are 5/1 in Indiaâs favour.
Ladsbroke has given the Proteas odds of 7/2 and Sri Lanka odds of 9/2 to win the title. Only one betting site, bet365, gives South Africa the top betting odds at 3/1, with India in second place.
ab nobat yahan tak aa gayee hai *k *you have to rely on bettors to win!!
I wish life was that simple
Pakistan is not the favorite to win the WC. If I were to bet on Pak and they won, I would make a boatload of money. Or conversely, I bet on India and they lost I would lose money. Don't you seen an incentive for match fixing there ?
Pakistan wasnât favorite to win from beginning, so odds were against Pakistan, every game Pakistan won some people made loads of money, are you suggesting other teams played foul?
Well this news appeared in a local Urdu newspaper â Expressâ today - but as there is not point giving the link of the express newspaper for mainly two reasons âŚ
it is in Urdu - which is certainly not your cup of tea
All of you going to question the creditability of that news
therefore I have given you the original source âŚ
And my reply is very much relevant to the post i quoted ..

I know that but I am looking at it from another angle (I am not a betting person).
I do not care about these bookies or self-styled experts and pundits (read idiots like Ian Chappell) or believe in this favourite BS atleast in limited overs cricket.
No favourite has won the world cup apart from Windies (1975 & 79) and Australia (2003 & 2007) - even a layman could have predicted that!!
i.e. only 4 times in 9 previous world cups have they got it right i.e. less than 50% of the time, hence I could not care less about what others think

The same bookies weren't even giving odds for Pakistan to win the T/20 tournament and India was favourite.
The rest is history.
Its not about bookie's accuracy. Infact there is a strong lobby (read match fixers) working to make the bookie's odds go wrong. People make a lot more money if they bet against the bookie/odds and the bookie is wrong.

bookies are not going to be sitting idle and just watch the game ;)
