If you can follow ANY religion properly (and I mean properly), you will be a good human being. But obviously, religion is not a prerequisite for being a good human being.
I strive to be a good human being. I have stopped worrying myself with the complications associated with religions.
On second thought: there are many new-agey religions that aren't all that great.
Religion has very little to do with being an amazingly good natured human being.
Being better human is destiny and being better muslim a path .

Islam is a way of life, if we follow that way of life, we will be far greater than the so-called good human being of this world. After all, we Muslims have to worry about our akhira, if we keep akhira as our purpose of life, we will be far greater than any good human being in this world (who only lives 70 years) vs akhira!
Remember, this definition of "better human being" is from this world, a Muslim is defined by Lord of this world and next. So we should always always try to be the best muslim we can be.

but when i hear a question like that i always think anti islam conspiracy. as if a good muslim is not the best of humans.
obviously these questions are in the air at the moment, mainly due to the propaganda of the last twenty years, ever since ussr fell and nato needed a new foe
Being a better Muslim does mean being a better human being of course. if you follow Islamic values such as respect for elderly, charity to poor, sincerity, being a good neighbour and so much more.
BUT in the west sexual freedom for example is not seen as an indicator of beig a better human being whilst in Islam it is.

Absolutely ... but I am questioning the what definition of better human being is this thread subject to. People have different perspectives. When the thread opener wrote Better Human VS Better Muslim, the use of VERSUS means there is something in conflict. I would want to see an explanation of that.
