Re: Best way to ruin your career
Of course not every instance if alcohol an is religiously motivated. There used to be ban in Tamil Nadu several decades ago. My undergrad colleagues woukd buy alcohol as soon as train entered Andhra. Banning is not a solution.
When a person whose religion bans alcohol calls for an alcohol in the west, one can reasonably conclude that at least partially this is religiously motivated. This person so easily wants to ban alcohol - a drink that millions consume without "raping" anyone
I wonder how such a person would feel when the Trump call for a ban on muslims. It is so easy to impose ones way of life on others.
These bans only apply to muslim areas controlled by Muslims, since the majority respect this idea and want an alcohol free society. Having said that nonmuslims can produce and consume inside Muslim territories. Ex. Beer making factories in murree, Pakistan. Christians can hold liquor licenses in some Muslim countries. This is sharia actually.
Nowhere is a Muslim allowed to impose these rules in a nonmuslim country. We are to respect the laws of the land. So I don't agree with KKF. Unreasonable to impose such a ban in a country where traditionally people have a custom of alcoholic beverages.
But you can hold people accountable for destruction that goes with it. You can drink but you can't terrorize people on the streets. And there are rules for that.
Re: Best way to ruin your career
Also there is a difference in places like a Muslim country and parts of India. If you ban alcohol in an area where the majority abstain from alcohol you won't have much of a bootlegging industry. Nonmuslims are still allowed access to it so any Muslim who wants it that bad can get their hands on alcohol safely made. But impose a ban like this on nonmuslims then of course they will bootleg. For rules like this you need to be a Muslim country with Muslims who want these kinds of laws. Alcohol can flow freely otherwise and does even in Muslim territories like Beirut.

Re: Best way to ruin your career
Recipe for disaster... One question for you.. How effective is prohibition in Gujarat. Go to any hotels and you will have the best liquor if you are willing to pay the price. Ban is not an option it will only help the mafia.
Re: Best way to ruin your career
@ReadMe One of the main purpose is to save lives. Where alcohol consumption has gone up, deaths have increased. If lives are saved then it is effective. It is hard to believe your statement that it is available in black at all hotels. It is akin to saying that what is the need of law that makes carrying a driving licence compulsory if you can buy honesty of a traffic cop. Yes, there may be illegal selling of liquor and we can't claim cent percent implimentation of the law but we can say that we have saved/reduced alcohol consumption related deaths. Mr. Obama favours stricter gun laws in US and argues that it would be good even if it saves a single life. I agree, a rule is a rule only if it is obeyed, you see India recently blocked porn websites but soon lifted it because of response by people, that ban was unlikely to be accepted by the masses. Some states are thinking of lifting liquor ban too. But if there is a reduction in death rate and no major opposition from masses then I see this is good. If masses (majority of people) has accepted the ban then smuggling is more a police dept issue, Police and related depts have to deal with it. You see it was the public of Bihar who demanded a ban on alcohol.
