The reality is that nobody is stopping you from getting over the guy…except you. It’s all a matter of making decisions and sticking to them. You make the decision to move on…and whether it’s a firm decision or a flimsy one depends upon you. You can choose to cut all contact with him and leave no door open for him to reach you or you can remain in touch and risk getting hurt even more. You have the power to either dwell on thoughts about him…or redirect your thoughts toward something else. You have the power to either sit in your room and lament over him…or you could keep yourself busy. And in the back of our minds…we all know this. Maybe the fact that the solution is so straightforward is why it’s uncomfortable to accept…it’s like medicine you know you need to take but don’t feel like doing so. It would be easier if emotions turned off like a light switch, but they don’t, so you have to persist in making the effort. As cliche as it sounds…with time, it does get better.
