Best suncreen with SPF30 or more ?

I use the elta MD one and I really like it

Gina, is sunsense available in the US? and if so what store would carry it?

Re: Best suncreen with SPF30 or more ?

I use DDF organic sun protection SPF 30. its great. It blends into the skin very well and doesn’t leave white residue and does not burn my eyes.

Mall it's a tinted gel.. not a cream. U should be able to get it at any pharmacy :)

I have never broken out, neither have my mom, sis, or husband. I make them all use it. The product is also not thick, definitely not as thick as many many other sunscreens out there. Actually, I haven't seen any as thin as this, and no it doesn't leave a white film and is not greasy.

However, before purchasing any product you should get a sample to test out. Because this isn't the cheapest sunscreen out there, I would suggest to not buy it without trying it.

Hi All. Why is everyone here using 70-100 SPF sunscreen for everyday use?? That strength of sunscreen is recommended for days at the beach or outdoor sports where there is harsh and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Of course there will be a chalky effect as super strength sunscreens contain more chemicals. In the long run these will irritate the skin....Asian skin requires an SPF 35 for everyday sun protection. Ask any good dermatologist.

The higher the SPF the better for asian skin.. we are more prone to tanning and age spots. SPF 35 is the minimum factor.. higher spf doesn't mean more chemicals in the product.

Re: Best suncreen with SPF30 or more ?

The higher the SPF doesn't mean the better it is. Unless you're ridiculously cautious about your skin, there is not much difference between using an SPF 50 and SPF 100. SPF 100 blocks 99% of UVB rays, SPF 50 protects against 98% of UVB rays. SPF 30 blocks about 97%.

I have never heard dermatologists saying asians should use SPF 35, instead what I know they generally recommend is atleast SPF 15. Also, SPF is only a factor telling you the amount of UVB rays blocked, UVA rays are also very harmful and when you purchase a sunscreen make sure it also blocks UVA rays.

Lastly, you should use plenty of sunscreen each time you go out, regardless of it being SPF 30 or SPF 100+

Re: Best suncreen with SPF30 or more ?

^actually i have been told by my dermatologist: "higher the better" for my sensitive skin.
I guess i need that extra 1-2% coverage :D...and believe me with spf 35 or less i would get rashe so fast...but with 70+ i m safe and dont have to worry abt the sun rays.

Re: Best suncreen with SPF30 or more ?

^ i said they generally **say you should use **atleast SPF 15. but ofcourse there are people who need to use a stronger one but what dermatologists encourage more is to use a sunscreen that also includes UVA protection and to use a sufficient amount which is around 1 ounce, everytime u put it on.

Re: Best suncreen with SPF30 or more ?

okay im very confused.. sunscreen and sunblock are two different things. sunscreen lets you tan while the sunblock completely protects your face. and since i have sun poisoning, i have to wear a high spf one.
sooooo which sunblock is the best?

Sunblock blocks all UV rays while sunscreen "screen's" the harmful one's and lets u're skin absorb the good ones. It's possible to tan a little thru sunscreens (not a whole lot though) but sunblocks protect u from both..tanning and harmful rays.

Re: Best suncreen with SPF30 or more ?

Sunscreens always absorb UV rays. All sunscreens will protect against UVB rays. UVB rays are the main cause of tanning and too much of it can damage DNA. Not all sunscreens protect against UVA rays. UVA rays cause aging and skin cancer. It is extremely important that when you purchase a sunscreen or sunblock, you make sure they contain ingredients for protection against UVA rays.

Sunblocks always reflect UVB rays and if they have the ingredients will also reflect UVA rays. However, sunblocks are the ones that are thick and greasy and will usually leave a white film on your skin.

Contrary to popular belief, neither a sunblock nor a sunscreen will completely (100%) save you from tanning. Sunblocks are better than sunscreens if your main concern is not getting tanned. But, even if you use a sunblock, you can get tanned and probably will depending on many factors such as, how long you are out in the sun, how often you reapply it, and how much of it you put on, and making sure that you cover every spot that is visible including, ears, feet, neck, hands, etc.

Regardless of which product you are using, sunblock or sunscreen, you must apply a sufficient amount. Rule of thumb is to apply a teaspoon worth on the face and a tablespoon on each arm and leg. You must reapply everytime you come out of the water or if you are sweating a lot, specially if it’s not water/perspiration resistant.

If you are especially concerned, check out this website, it gives information on which ingredients protect you from UVA/UVB rays. So you should be looking for these ingredients when you pick out your product:

Sunblock & Sunscreen Protection Ingredients

I did my research when picking out a sun care product and that’s why I ended up going with the Shiseido sunscreen. It protects against both UVA and UVB rays and contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide -considered the top and most effective ingredients for sun protection (you will know what these are if you read on the link above). In addition, it is as they say, 'extremely water and perspiration resistant." It also has the Skin Cancer Foundation seal of recommendation which was a major plus for me :).

Re: Best suncreen with SPF30 or more ?

^wow. and it doesn't leave a white/greasy feel on skin, does it?

Re: Best suncreen with SPF30 or more ?

I use Clinique's Cityblock SPF 40 everyday, its slightly tinted. Im sanwali and I dont see chalky residue on my skin.

One thing I do on days when I wear foundation is I mix my sunblock with my foundation. That helps tint it a bit more and the chalky look is gone.

^ yup i do that often... makes n excellent base n protects the skin aswell

I've too got the Clinique City Block SPF50, but I don't like it due to the chalky effect that it has....

Are there any other clear sunblocks for the face out there that are good and are available in the UK??

yep, it doesnt, but then again i dont put a teaspoon worth of it on my face either.

Re: Best suncreen with SPF30 or more ?

for the past two years..i've been using la roche-posay anthelios and its SPH 60
it doesn't look greasy nor is there any white residue..i think its really good quality and its relatively inexpensive
