Can anyone tell me which schools are the most reputable in Karachi. I only know of Karachi Grammar & St Patricks (Ref - Mush).
BTW - I cannot find any information on KGS on the net! If it does not even have a website, it can’t be that good ! I heard it is difficult to get admission into KGS and I want to try to get my children admitted into it - anyone got any ideas how to go about it (contact name / e-mail)
I dunno much about them (I grew up in Dubai and Canada only) but it is a good advice to stay away from "franchise" schools (which are often - though not always - operated in houses)..
I amn't so sure about the rest.. only if they could fix the government school system
yup St .Rita's primary school ( my brothers went there), than for sec schooling other convent schools
( they're mostly seperate for boys n girls) like St. Joseph's , St .Paul's, St .Patrick's, convent of jesus n mary ,mama parsi school .........also KGS is best , a new school of PAF chapter also ,though it's quiet hard to get into these schools .
than there r others private schools like ..........city , beacon house , foundation public etc which r pretty expensive but it's easier to get into such schools , have no idea about Lyceum.
people have different point of views in general as to which school is better ,mostly they recommend the ones where they themselves or their kids went for schooling , standard wise i think now it's hard to say which one is good b/c most of students opt for "after school tuition programs" hence the way they perform /score in academics is not just what they've learnt in their school.
Thanks everyone for responding. So it seems like KGS, St Patricks, a few convent schools and City / Beaconhouse are the best schools.
Question is - what strategy to use to get admission for my kids. My kids are going to be in primary school so does that make it easier? I heard that KGS only issue a small number of forms and that you have to queue for them overnight! Shall I go and visit a couple of schools and beg them for mercy as being a "Johny Foreigner" I have no chance to queue for forms!
^ Yes, and did you know khattana that if you have canadian or american citizenship (which i am pretty sure you have) you have the right to exempt yourself from studying sindhi, urdu and pakistan studies
I went to Beaconhouse Islamabad, though its a little different from the Karachi branches (as we have only one branch in Isloo, and so its easier for them to maintain standards and academic results), but we always had a 100% O/A level pass result, atleast upto 1999, when I got done with Alevels. I personally did really good in O/A levels, but I think they (the administration and the faculty) did a really good job, now that I think about it. If I have a child and am in Pakistan, I will send him/her to Beaconhouse, as thats a name I trust.
^^ My cousin studies in one of the Karachi branches.. and believe me they operate out of HOUSES (Sector 1, Division A etc. this kind of organizing ) and apparently their “cricket pitch” was a roughly 10-12 feet long strip of cement IN FRONT of the building.. my cousin says his new “sector” is way bigger, but whatever I didn’t like it when I went to a visit
The Islamabad one was pretty decent, its a central branch in H-8, pretty big... Back in the mid 90s, we had omer ali khan (who taught history, hes saif ali khan bollywood wallas cousin, and sheryar khan's son too)... and he built a really nice pitch there, and even got nets and that bowling machine, he actually has two guys from my class that he worked hard on, bazid khan and bilal asad, both have played in international matches. However, after he left, they couldnt maintain that cricket fervour, I guess passion counts too, and omer was really into it.
Btw, the clifton branch was pretty decent from what I remember?

ummm....beacon house, city and saint patricks used to be good schools. But now the best schools are:
1). Grammer school,
2). St. Joseph,
3) bay View, CAS and Lyceum,
4). convent jesus & mary, Froebel and LeCole.
Thanks for the feedback. So it’s still KGS at the #1 slot !! I am a little concerned though that I Have heard from a few friends & relatives that " agar bachoon ko bigaarna hai to KGS bhejo" and that it is attended by ultra rich and spoilt kids and that “mahol buhat khraab hai wahaan ka” etc etc.
Doesn’t bother me much as I believe a good upbringing at home can deter any negative influences at school, but problem is my mother is now being swayed by these negative comments !!
