always stored in the kitchen, never noticed any smell unless some r gone bad. make sure get onions that r dry , like when u press them they seems hard not soft. soft onions wont last long in storage.

Onion: Open basket where it can get direct air
Potatoes: Refrigerator

Onions: In a 'chiku', in the cabinet under the sink.

Also, make sure that when you buy the onions, always open the bag, and sort through them. Use the ones that will soon go bad so that they don't ruin the other onions as well.
Potatoes: In the fridge.

I have always stored them in the kitchen and never had issues...they last a few weeks and I think just a few times a potato went bad and I had to throw them out.
Make sure they are dry before you store them otherwise they do go bad and stink up the place.

I haven’t noticed a smell either. Mine are currently in one of these Ikea bins in this Ikea shelving unit that I have in the kitchen:

But if you refridgerate onions, you will have less tears.

Sahar... I have the exact same storage idea in my kitchen too... Isnt it the easiest thing ever! Mine is in black though...

But use these bags Onion Preserving Bag | Lakeland, and keep them in the wire drawers. Since I bought them bags I’ve never had a problem with my onion/potato storage.
