Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

So if a couple were thinking of moving to the States or to England … which would be the best region to move to in either of the countries?
Keeping in mind extremist-free-zones, not very high rents, nice educated Pakistani people, job availability, not too far from a big city (if the big city itself isn’t recommended) … and so on …
basically the best all-rounder region/city in both places …

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

chelsea and knightsbridge in the uk is good for you, but its higher rent rates. try anywhere wheres theres no pakistanis if above criteria is important for you. some people consider parts of slough, maidenhead etc to be pleasant and they have pakistanis

rents are high in the south, north is very cheap but is slightly less sophisticated

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

Don’t know about the rest and may be not meeting your criterion exactly but Devon has a special place in me heart :hinna:

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

why do you want to move? are you in europe?

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

In UK, I believe Oxford might be a nice place for you to live. There are few areas in west London as well , and there are nice small communities of Pakistanis and muslims in Surrey and it's not too far from London.

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

Long Island, Yonkers in New York !

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

In the UK definately up north (Lancashire) is nice, everthing is cheaper including rent

I love it here and its good to raise a family here too :)

^
Where abouts in Lancs u from b?

Farrah u can't have your cake and eat it too... If you want somewhere that's got educated ppl living there then it's not going to be cheap and there's not going to be that many Pakis... Educated Pakis don't form their own cliques/ghettos, they are spread out over predominantly caucasian areas..

I once heard on TV that there is a indigenous-British Caucasian Muslim village somewhere in the south but I don't know where, I'd love to visit there..

I live in the South (in a remote village), no Pakistanis here I'm afraid (apart from us) so I don't think it'll meet your criteria !

In London, South Kensington is lovely but rents are a bit extortionate...I hear Bath is quite nice (its near Bristol which has a pakistani community).

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

St. John's Woods in London
Greenwich, CT near New York City

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

UK is a horrible place to live. England specially.

I currently live out in New York, lived in Denver, Portland, Vancouver. I'd have to say Houston texas has by far been the most attractive city I have visited. I don't think any city is more interesting to raise a modern day muslim pakistani family then there. Why? Most of the pakistani population there is educated. No cabbie types or paindoos. I think its because the oil and medical industries are based out of that city. So doctors, engineers and the likes are in abundance.

plus the schools are amazing for kids. and its the cheapest biggest city to live in. Plus a beach. It's got hot weather but I wouldn't mind that at all. I think im going to move!!!!!

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

Dont listen to these people... Come to west london ;) East and south... and north come to think of it i dont likes! Unless u can afford to live in central London as some have suggested but from ur post I believe maybe not. London London London! I loves it!

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

yes we’re in europe … but would really like to relocate … “to a better place” cheesy musical playing in the background
buy cheap rent i dont necessarily mean dirt cheap … but something affordable for an educated job-oriented couple (both working)
it doesnt matter if the pakis are scattered in the caucasian forest as long as they do have some format of getting together, and knowing each other … personally that sounds attractive …

a lot of recommendations for UK … and 1 for USA .. :hmmm:
we really want a nice happening place for a yong cople

and yea i’ve hear a lot of bad about England … it has kinda turned me off … but i really wanna know for sure what the big deal and all ..

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

If you want to move to USA, keeping the factors you mentioned, I would say Houston is a good place. Less expensive, warm Pak like weather, huge desi community, good job market

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

London is a nice place to live in, quite a varied bunch…a lot of desis in most places.

…not to mention the lovely people that reside there (:layd:)

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

in the uk theres so many pakistanis that you are likely to be not noticed in shopping stores and gatherings are few for communities unless your related. most people here have familly and cousins, and more cousins and this leaves them very little time for cultural gatherings.

ive lived in europe, albeit at a young age and know
what it feels like to see other pakistani famillies and to be invited back to theirs. to borrow some of that massala that you just cannot find in the stores. i think this type of community spirit you may find in the states

the uk has so many positives but they are hard to explain. pehaps its better as a home by birth

houston sounds wonderful

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

in my experience, Dallas, not the city itself but the suburbs such as frisco, carrolton, or plano are great if moving to US. expenses are medium ranged, desis in the community are educated and VERY NICE PEOPLE!
lol evven though im a chicagoan, desis in chicagoland area sukk!!!

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

^^ Ignore all these posts .

California is the BEST . Weather . Job . Desi Community . Name it , and its better than any other place .

The best cities to live in are Sunnyvale , San Jose , Mountain View , Palo alto . This area is full of highly educated people and also knows as Silicon Valley . Come on you'll be living next to Google , San Francisco and Stanford University . What else you want :D

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

NYC! Could there possibly be any place better than that? ;) It's the heart of everything! IT has culture, job opportunities, great universities, so many Pakistanis and you can pick and choose who you want to hang out with!

Since NYC can be very expensive, the next best alternative is long island or Westchester. They are both great suburbs to live in and are only 30-40 mins away from Manhattan.

Chicago is good too but it gets REALLY cold there whereas NYC is cold but not unbearable like Chicago.

Re: Best place to live in the UK/USA ..

Bradford.
