what about kickboxing
please help as I am looking into it.
thanks in advance
Actually works? Research shows that the vast majority of "street fight" situations end up on the ground in about 20 seconds. Unless you are good Mike Tyson, counting on a decisive blow in 20 seconds is foolish. Try Judo or Ju-Jitsu, they teach you how to get someone to the ground and win.
No, Ju jistu and Judo teach arm bars and choke holds that cause the opponent to submit. Wrestling is more oriented toward pinning someones back to the ground, which has little practical effect. Ju-Jitsu and Judo both have excellent ground techniques.
Learning a martial art doesn’t help if a person is caught off-guard. You catch someone by surprise and they won’t be able to defend themselves. It’s a fact. That’s how robbers, car jackets get you despite their dimmunitive size.
I read an article about a program called FAST Defense in Men’s Health - Best Life magazine (April 2005 issue) and I found it quite appealing. Most street fights are over in 10-20 seconds and you need a presence of mind and extremely effective VERBAL and physical techniques.
I totally disagree, I got my blackbelt and really I can kick no arss. All you learn is “tables” and “sparring”. In the real world noone wants you to recite a routine before they start to noodle you.
Watch some UFC matches and you will get a nice spectrum of fighting styles. Most of the fighters use a mix of martial arts but specialize in one or another.
Pressure Points : Helpful, but gotta becareful you can leave longterm / perm. effect - whatever discpline you would choose for pressure points, will give you more techniques. hard to learn
boxing: Probably one of the easist to learn and quite effective. Can take care of most people even if they have some martial art training.
the israeel martial art? quite brutal but effective.
what about kickboxing: Kicks are what you can use the least in a "real fight". Hence taek-wan do is good for showing off mainly.
Judo / Karate : helpful as it teaches you to choose users weight and power against them. If you are weak / short in size - really consider this
Look just learn akido - The art of breaking bones. That is where you learn to kill people in one move. Dangerous stuff because they teach you to kill not to defend.
