Best manner to dispose off old clothing ..

Hi All,

Everyone has their own way of disposing off old clothing.

What, in your opinion is the best manner to do it? simply throwing them off in the bin? give it to charity who may then decide whether they can reuse any of it .. give it to the homeless? give it to your local mosque?

Whats your strategy normally?

We give old cloths to needed people whom we personally know (safeed posh)

For me, I keep the following pointers in mind:

  • Old bedsheets : I keep them as they come handy during property paint jobs .. and after they are used, I bin them in the recycling bin.

  • Dresses : I wash them first and then put them in the charity bags that we get through the door often .. leave for collection and let them decide what they wanna do with them.

  • socks and other stuff : again, binning them is the easiest option ..

sometimes, if i have clothes that havnt been worn more then a few times and still fairly new, I keep them and on my visits to Paksitan, I give them to the Eidhi center ... its better then wasting them but its become a hassle lately since bagage limit is always an issue !

For people living in Pakistan it's relatively easy. They give that stuff to their maids/housworkers, etc.

For us it's a bit different. We usually give the "western clothes" to charity here and let them decide what to do with it. They have collection areas all over town. For "Shalwar Kameez" (mainly my wife's) that is not a suitable option because they would not be able to use them. So those go into an extra bag that we take to Pakistan on our annual trips there and distribute them among Kaam waale.
