Best low GI foods?

What are your favourite low GI foods? Let’s list them here, I’m getting tired of my usual routine.

  • low-gi brown seed bread with avo, lemon juice, sweet pepper and coriander
  • bananas
  • fresh fruit with low fat yoghurt and mixed seeds

Any nice veggies? I’m tired of munching on carrots and I’ve gone off broccoli for some reason.

Chickpeas make me fart, although I know they are very good. :-/

Daal - I don’t like my daal. Waiting for mommy to come back so she can make me daal.

Anything else?

Re: Best low GI foods?

It is so easy to make yummy daal. Last week my wife was gone to a wedding and I felt like have some daal chawal. I boiled daal to the point where it was cooked fully then I fried Shaan qorma masala for a few minutes in a little oil , then I mixed daal to it . It turned out to be a sensation for me a my two boys who were home with me.

Re: Best low GI foods?

wow really? I just bought about 10 packets of shaan masala - there must be a qorma one somewhere! thanks! but too much white rice is no good :nono:

did you fry onions and garlic with it?

I do have daal for lunch though! Our maid made it!

Yes I fried some onion but no garlic. I had made garlic key chutney in advance.

My stance is this you can use daal instead of meat for any shaan masala packet , it will turn out good. Use as less oil as you can and follow the directions on the packet just substitue precooked daal for meat.

Rice was for kids , I immersed my whole wheat roti in daal and ate it. Yum yum. finger licking good.

Re: Best low GI foods?

Yes spocky :halo:
GI - glycaemic index
Low GI foods release energy slowly over a longer period of time, thus you feel less hungry and don’t have sugar highs and lows

Re: Best low GI foods?

Interesting, if I remember correctly, whole wheat bread as opposed to white bread is another good example :)

Re: Best low GI foods?

duh!!

the whiter your bread the faster you’re dead :stuck_out_tongue:

your bread should be brown, high fibre, low gi, with seeds. Bit hard to swallow, but I find if you toast it lightly and top it with mashed avo, lemon juice and pementos and dhania it’s just :yummy:

and you eventually get used to it.

i’ve eaten brown bread my whole life. we only bring white for my dad, but i’ve almost converted him now.
