Read the rules of this forum before downloading, but here are some freeware that are considered best in industry. Some are better than premimum software that you can purchase.
While we are at it, can someone recommend a good software for auto-backing up the computer files (pics, docs etc.) to an external hard drive? I use windows vista and tried using the back up and restore center but didn't like it. I tried using Seagate's software that comes with the hard drive but after backing up about 200 files, it says "pending" and I've left it running for an entire night and it didn't move!

Shikra,
Don't use a software. Use the following xcopy command:
Copy and paste the above to a txt file, save it as a batch file with .bat extension. Now schedule it to run 3:00 AM every day (or whatever suits your timing needs) using the scheduler program in Control Panel.
The most frequently used freeware programs for me are FinePrint, WinGrep and Gadwin PrintScreen
FinePrint:
Use FinePrint to reduce the environmental impact of your printing. Cut paper, ink and printer costs by at least 30% with this award-winning printer utility.
WinGrep:
Windows Grep is a tool for searching files for text strings that you specify. Although Windows and many other programs have file searching capabilities built-in, none can match the power and versatility of Windows Grep.
Gadwin Print Screen:
Gadwin Print Screen combines the power of a first-class screen capture application with an advanced image editing and annotation utility - wrapped into one easy-to-use tool. Gadwin PrintScreen Professional is versatile and extremely easy-to-use
MSI afterburner - to overclock your grafix card
also got a mini app in it which shows an OSD of FPS, gfx card temps, fan speed core speed etc ingame which is a really nice feature to have ingame. http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/
Camstudio - freeware screen recording software
Miranda IM - has aim, msn, yahoo, icq etc and its TINY like 2 mb installation, superfast aswell
Rocket dock - my fav app ever, FREE and very nice features
Ashampoo burning studio - pretty nice for a free burning software
daemon tools - good for mounting ISO and other cd image files
