Pompeii has nice food. There is a place in Greek Town called Rodity's i think, they have a pretty nice atmosphere and food too. Ofcourse its non zabiha and veg choices are limited.
You always have sabri nihari, then there is this halal chinese on devon, it used to be good, don't know about now (you can always go and check). I think it is on sacramanto/devon or richmond/devon.
I would suggest you check chopal out, they have good food, very nicely decorated restaurant, with traditional desi furniture and all kinda traditional decor on the walls.
that chinese place on devon/sacramento (Jumbo chinese) has gone down horribly in quality, its a nice family run place, but its been slipping steadily. my folks and phuppi went there with me in 2003 and then this year amd while they liked it the first time, this time they were thoroughly disppointed.
the new khans BBQ on the corner of devon and western is friggin awesome, khans bbq had some of the best kebabs on devon but their location was this dinky lil dhaba, now that has ben solved as well, service is a little slow but the place is huge and the food is awesome.
downtown there is a place called klay oven, very nice. expensive but worth it
Marigold is a desi fusion retaurant, pricey but very uique
there is usmania chinese restaurant that I have not been to but have heard good things about
Vermilion is also a desi fusion restaurant, thik of a mix of desi and tapas...very good.
Fraudia, Those are cool choices :k: I didn’t know abt some of the restaurants you mentioned.
I like Chopal too but problem is it can only occupy 25 ppl. We need a restaurant that can occupy at least 30 people.
Jumbo chinese food is just…bad…enough said!
I love Khan BBQ, but I agree, their service is slow. Sitting place is not ideal for a large family dinner(i’m really looking for a place like Chopal)
Sabri is good…but they only allow large group dinners to sit on the corner side of restaurant. I’m being too picky i guess…
what are the prices like for the desi fusion restaurants you mentioned?
We are looking to pay around $20-22 per head. Our guests will include people of almost all ages…most are in their 20s but also my parents, some uncles, aunties and nani amma that’s why we need a desi place. They probably won’t like chinese or italian food.
I think it would be better if we rent a small hall and have Khan BBQ or any other good restaurant cater food there but most halls I know are too big for this group size. hmmm…what to do? so confused.
the fusion places will be expensive Marigold is in the $35/person range but that would include aperizers, drinks dessert..and the drinks are wine which adds up, so excluding that you can probably make it happen at about $25.
khanBBQ has a new location, this is at the corner of western and devon, the place which used to be desi island, sheermal place,a nd god knows how many places. No retaurant seems to last there. but its a huge place. so if you are going from sabri to tahoora, this is the corner retaurant on your right hand side just before you cross western..
for $22 or so per head you can also do Rezas, downtown or the suburban ones, andersenville and i believ ethe other one is oakbrook.
Thanks fraudiya and ira....Seems like Khan BBQ is the best option for our price range. Well, since we want this dinner gathering to be a bit private we have decided to book a hall and have Khan saab cater his food there. :)
At Bakr Eid new Sabri is opening up in Lombard. I think after fire at the Sabri this weekend, opening date can be sooner. I like Sabri the best in Chicago land area. Salt and Pepper is also good if it is still in Schaumburg. I have not been there in a while.
