I think the best career advice that i've ever got is what I pass on as well. i.e. Whatever you choose to do (in career), just reach its excellence so that nobody else can be as good as you.
As my childhood mentor used to say, even if you decide to be a biryani chef only just make sure there isnt anyone to cook a better biryani than you in the city.
Easier said than done but thats the challenge!

It is very serious. but explaining it is kind of hard.
