best area to stay in NY?

What is the best area (Times Square/ Madison Square Garden/ Downtown/ etc) to get a hotel around while visiting NY?

Re: best area to stay in NY?

Marriot in Time Sq

Re: best area to stay in NY?

aside from Harlem, ure good pretty much anywhere if you stay within Manhattan borough.

Thanks guys.

We stayed at the Marriott Marquis last year- beautiful, gorgeous, stunning hotel. However this time, we are looking for something different in Times Square area. Maybe Hilton? (across from the famous chicken and rice guy). And then there's the Rennaisance as well? Anyone have any experience at any of these hotels?

Hotel Plaza next to Central Park. Other than horsie poop smell when you come outside its a more peaceful area than Times Square.

who else will know NYC better than TB...

TB am back to Boston :)

The Renaissance and the W in Times Square are nice. The Marquis looks impressive but is overrun by conference attendees (it's a fave for conventions); I've stayed at the Doubletree which had very nice rooms but was full of very obnoxious tourists and the staff seemed pretty hassled.

Before I lived in New York I stayed at the Hyatt Grand Central which I liked because of its more professional, business vibe and the great location. For something more relaxing and romantic I would look for something along the park.

If you can afford it I've heard that the St. Regis is gorgeous. I've been to events there and was very impressed but have never seen the guest rooms.
