best anti virus?

Guys which one is the best?

I seriously need to buy one and I usually have McAfee, but folk say 2007 edition is cumbersome and slow and crashes the PC etc. I have heard of Kaspersky AV etc.

Plz advise, as we have many tech geeks here.

Re: best anti virus?

AVG Free version.... :)

Re: best anti virus?

AVG is good

Re: best anti virus?

Re: best anti virus?

Re: best anti virus?

My top 3 picks...

  • AVG... free adition
  • NORTON
  • AVAST... what i have at the moment n i love it!

avg is good if u know what ur doing

norton is user friendly but if u want the free adition, the trial period isnt that long. it takes up alot of space tho. and comes with many mamy components. not all of them are needed and just take up space. and uninstallation is a pain!

avast, is my personal fav! its VERY user friendly. it can dig up*** deep*** viruses and it updates by its self so u wont have to download updates a thousand times a day. its free and not jsut a trial.

Re: best anti virus?

Screw AVG. I just reimaged a computer and it had 100s of virus that AVG never detected. They were all caught by Avast. Norton is also useless because once its on your computer you can never get rid of it unless you format your hard drive.

Avast home edition is free for the first 14 months. After that you have to pay but after 14 months you can uninstall it, remove all avast related registry entries from your computer and then reinstall it and its good for another 14 months.

I’ve been using avast for a while and im satisfied with it. Give it a shot. Avast 4 FREE Home Edition download

Re: best anti virus?

u dont have to uninstall it… :smack:
just reregister …
but i love avast!!!

Re: best anti virus?

if you are looking for a free one, then avast and avg are your best shots. if you are looking for paid one then kaspersky and nod32 are the best ones. i have been using Avast for a while and it has not given me any problems. i also use adaware and spybot, both of them free, on my computer to nail any spyware on my computer.
you should note that none of the anti-viruses are 100% safe. they will always let one or two viruses pass.
also AVAST is free for life. you just have to re-register it after its time expires. the registration procedure is not that difficult.
also i have talked a lot to the computer experts about these things. avast has a pretty fair rating. they say that norton consumes too much of the system resources and it also is not the best detector. i used to have norton and i can testify that when i switched to avast, there were many viruses that norton had never detected. my cousin's computer had that so called 'chinese viruse" some days ago and norton never detected it, let alone remove it. only after he installed nod32 was it detected and removed.
so Norton is a waste of money.

Re: best anti virus?

I use Trendmicro.

Re: best anti virus?

AVAST, Way to go........

Re: best anti virus?

Why?

I will be switching from AVG Free to Kaspersky soon. I want to try kaspersky and see how it is... keep hearing how good it is but so far my pick would be AVG Free edition but that might change in near future depending on how kaspersky performs.

Anybody use *Untangle *(firewall, antispam, antispyware, antivirus) gateway? I plan on putting that behind the router for the added security.

I tested it at work and it performed pretty well.

Re: best anti virus?

NOD32

Re: best anti virus?

NOD32 is good but has not been able to remove a virus from my system for almost a year now. I don't bother about it anymore and turned the notification off. I will try AVAST now.

Re: best anti virus?

I now have Avast. But the PC repair shop uploaded it. How do I upload it myself?

Re: best anti virus?

none!.. i dont need no antivirus.. just the zone alarm firewall...

Re: best anti virus?

I downloaded avast based on the suggestion here and I am loving it. It runs without using too much of system resource and unlike others, does not slow down your system

Also, yesterday I ran spybot (as a third party check) and it came back showing zero threats (becuase of Avast)

Thanks for recommending it guys (Piyarri ji and Cheegum)

Re: best anti virus?

I dont know about the commercial version but the free version made my system crawl. It was hogging up the memory so much, that I had to uninstall it

Re: best anti virus?

I don't use any virus protection. They all seem to have more issues than the virsu itslef (i.e. slowing down my computer is to name one)

Re: best anti virus?

^^^ How do you protect your computer. Or do you do fresh install every now and then
