So many replies and not even a single mention of ZoneAlarm??? Hands down the best all-in-one solution for home users. Use that along side with Trojan Hunter and DeepFreeze and you are set for life.
You need to read the first paragraph before you go on to say that “my argument is flawed”. You googled DeepFreeze but you forgot to google “Trojan Hunter”. 
Also google how ZoneAlarm Internet Suite works i.e. features like OS-Level Firewall, Advanced Program control, Application Interaction control, Component control, and if you use Wireless router, ARP Protection. Have fun…
