Bent knees

Hello everyone.
How are u all doing.Well I am here again with another question.Well I have been told that its not good for knees to keep them straight while exercising and they should be kept slightly bent While I find it difficult to exercise with my knees slightly bent I find it more comfortable to exercise keeping my knees straight. So is it just a myth or medically confirmed thing?

Re: Bent knees

Medically confirmed.

Re: Bent knees

Alhamdulilah, hope you're good too!

While one exercises there is immense pressure being exerted on the joints once the leg is straightened and especially when there is considerable amounts of weight that's being carried along, hence the obvious emphasis given on avoiding straightening the arm or legs while working them out. Yes, there is the slight extra bit of stress/pain involved when one chooses not to straighten the part of the body being worked but that is solely because once straightened, most of the load shifts to the joint tendons and not the muscle itself. Not needed. You could do a few less repetitions to overcome this and without affecting the workout intensity.

A personal example would be the elbow joint pain I was suffering from a while back because of the strenuous little bench presses or the barbell curls I was doing. The instant I stopped straightening the muscles, I was entirely relieved from the joint pain as well. Therefore, It is much recommended to try and not straighten any part of the body that puts unwanted load on the joints while exercising and especially when there are weights involved.

Re: Bent knees

Oh thanks alot for such a detailed and informative reply.

Re: Bent knees

Hmm i agree with exodus really like his post thanks u so much for sharing some part of his post were quite new for me thanks u very much for sharing such a impressive knowledge.....

Re: Bent knees

yep...should be slightly bend and shouldn't be crossing the toes.

Re: Bent knees

Yap as Exodus and Catskin suggested..bent your knees lets say if you're doing dumbell or generally picking up anything heavy. But i can understand when you said you keep your knees straight. So here is what i suggest..if you're doing dumbell sets then sit on the bench. If you're moving around even doing aerobics..try to slightly bent your knees. Wish ya best!
