ISLAMABAD: The Musharraf government has instructed Pakistani missions abroad and the intelligence bosses in the country to keep a close eye on the travels of the twice-elected Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto who is expected to make a surprise landing in Pakistan by an indirect flight on any day after addressing a public meeting in London on August 25.
The intelligence âlinksâ and âcoversâ particularly in United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom are watching Bhutto and her close associates especially Rehman Malik, Malik Mumtaz and some others. The government thinks that the group of Bhutto loyalists, along with the so far silent cohorts in the countryâs bureaucracy and a bunch of politicians who have made their way in provincial governments, are playing a vital role in the return of Benazir to Pakistan, a highly placed official in the Chief Executive Secretariat told News Bureau of Investigation on condition of anonymity.
Benazir has asked former Prime Minister of Azad Jummu and Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry to organise a public meeting in London on August 25. Permission from the UK government is being sought for this rally. The Barrister has already started tapping his links in the UK to assemble a reasonable crowd.
In a high level meeting at the Chief Executive Secretariat, the National Accountability Bureau has been told to issue fresh arrest warrants for Bhutto to the Interior Ministry in Islamabad which will make sure that they are with the home secretaries of Sindh and Punjab in no time.
âShe may land at any airport of the country but will be brought to Islamabad after being arrested, where she is to face the charges leveled against her,â a Sindh government official told The News on telephone.
The chiefs of prisons in Sindh and Punjab have been given directions to make needed preparations for the confinement of a âvery very important personalityâ who might be handed over to the jail authorities in the last week of August or by mid-September.
The Adiala and Attock jails staff are already preparing detention rooms which will be up to the standard where the former prime minister of the country can be kept. For initial confinement Sihala Rest House is also being cleaned up which, if required, can be declared a sub-jail.
I dont think Pakistan ought to shoot her. They ought to arrest her and keep her in prison so she can't escape again. And then they ought to squeeze out every aana she stole from the Pakistani citizens.

Mush is no angel. In his previous jobs he has a pretty bad record if you go by results. As a general he was a traitor who acted behind the back of the elected govt of Pakistan. As a military official he took Pakistan to new abyss through misadventures such Kargil, ISI sponsorship of radical extremists etc. As a COAS he didn't even make sure he wasn't taped while telephoning his deputy about what lies to tell and the tapes that came from China proved beyong a shaddow of doubt what a low-integrity commander he is. He even disowned his own troops. As a dictator he sold the sovereignty of the country under pressure. And then tried to renege on the words he gave to India and the world. And then within hours retracted the reneging. I cannot think of any leader even from banana republics that have taken a proud country with problems and turned it into a something much less in stature.
Yet, that is the best you have for now. Otherwise the radical mullahs take over. Hence Mush may have to be put up with. What other alternatives do you have?
