Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

ISLAMABAD, Oct 6: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto has expressed shock over, what she called, the rape of a 13-year-old girl in a church.

The girl was allegedly kidnapped by Nazir Ahmed at gunpoint and taken to New Apostolic Church in Yazman, Bahawalpur district, and raped.

On hearing the cries of the girl, people of the area rushed to the church and saw Nazir Ahmed raping the teenage girl. On seeing the people, the accused ran away waving his gun in the air.

According to the priest, the influential people of the area stopped the poor family from taking any action against the accused. The girl was hospitalised and a medico-legal report was awaited. The police were reluctant to register a case until September 3 after pressure by the public and church.

“The regime is turning a blind eye, as the terrorists are threatening Priest Binyamin with dire consequences forcing him to go into hiding with his family. The rapists have no fear and do not hide. It is the victim, who has to hide because Musharraf regime does not give them protection.”

Ms Bhutto said that Gen Musharraf’s mediaeval view about women reflected the extremist tribal ideology which had no place in the modern Pakistan. Under this extremist view, camouflaged by the false claims of ‘enlightened moderation’, the disadvantaged groups, including women, minorities, labour and peasants, are facing increasing hardships and discrimination, she said.

The PPP chairperson recalled that Mukhtaran Mai’s rapists were freed and re-arrested after international pressure. “Mai was banned from travelling abroad by the military junta that allowed rape to flourish under its tenure and considered talking about it a crime and punished those wishing to highlight the problem to eliminate it,” the former premier said.

I dont support benazir and her party ppp but we should all condemn this incident.Raping someone in a church which is after all a place of worship should be condemned and the rapist should be punished.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

yech if true that is sick...

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

Allah Pakistan ko kya ho gaya hai...sighzz*

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

someone following jungle's law is calling Musharraf "the extremist tribal ideology", yes the incident is very sad and the culprit must be hanged by balls, but this incident should not be used by looser politicians to score points, the whole incident gets politicized and is not treated fairly.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

yes crime must be ruthlessly suppressed, especially sexual crime, sectarian crime or terrorism, which is so often used by Pakistan’s enemies to defame it. I think the punishment for rape, sectarian or terrorist violence should be death.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

Pakistan ko kuch nahi ho gaya hai, the sad news is not new the only difference is this time its been reported.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

^ and politicians are using it to score points.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

some cheap score I might say.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

thats what most politicians do in Pakistan, just to score they can get low and low.
sad crime, rape is a crime and sadly happens every part of world. but in pakistan its being used as tool to get some media attention, the victims are being used by NGO and low life political people. are they interested in getting international media and deamonising Pakistan to get more dollors from western masters!! or they really interested in helping the victims to get justice???

I leave the answer to you.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

^ When a politician tries to grab ahold of a social issue at hand; it does not automatically mean they are trying to score points. Maybe, just maybe, they are sincerely looking to improve society, which is their job anyway.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

Another example of Pakistans failure in protecting the minorites.. YEAH for the ISLAMIC Republic...

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

Simple answer, it is the NGO’s that help the victims get justice, and live a decent life again.

Pointing out the wrongs in Pakistan is not ‘demonising’ Pakistan, rather the opposite, it is due to these NGO’s raising a hue and cry over these issues that pressure is brought to bear by the international community to do something about it, which it turn makes Pakistan a much better place.

It is of no use leaving it to the govt to do something, they don’t care.

Thank God there are good people in NGO’s to help

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

NGOs are not enough, though I do admit that they do a good job. What is needed is for the political parties to commit themselves sincerely to eradicating the evils in Pakistan.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

“minority”? can you elaborate further? Also, please forget that its “Islamic” republic, its only a name.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

come’on, you should know politicians like BB by now.

Re: Benazir condemns rape of girl in church

What the hell do you think a minority is? And yeah its the “Islamic” republic.. The biggest load of bull crap on the continent.
