Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme
KARACHI: As many as 95,000 candidates appeared for the entry test for the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme (BBSYDP), held simultaneously in all the districts of Sindh.
The tests were conducted by the Dadabhoy Institute at 23 districts of the province for 6,000 available seats in the BBSYDP. From Karachi alone, 17,000 candidates took the test.
According to BBSYDP Project Director and Sindh Additional Secretary Schools Riaz Ahmed Memon, the one and a half hour test conducted at the National Stadium for the Karachi aspirants, comprised of questions related to English, mathematics and general science.
He said that the test results will be announced within a week and as per the direction of Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, transparent measures will taken throughout the process.
The Sindh government has initiated the BBSYDP to reduce unemployment among the educated youths of the province, he said.
“Under this programme, 6,000 educated unemployed youths will be trained in English language proficiency, mathematics and science in 26 technical and polytechnic institutes across the province from December 1,” he added.
The programme will be spread over a period of six months, during which the selected candidates with qualifications ranging from matriculation to postgraduate will be entitled for an honorarium.
For 1,500 matriculation candidates, the honorarium will be Rs 4,000, for 1,500 intermediate candidates, Rs 4,000, for 1,500 graduate candidates, Rs 5,000 and for 1,500 candidates with masters’ degrees, Rs 7,000.
It may be pointed out here that 350 tutors have already been selected by the Sindh Education and Literacy Department, who are being trained as master trainers to train the candidates who qualify for the programme. These master trainers have been chosen after they passed an IELTS test conducted by the British Council. They also had to pass mathematics and science tests conducted by the Aga Khan University to ensure the quality of the project.
The Sindh government has already allocated a fund of Rs 560 million for the project.
