I woke up this morning with full blown facial hemi-paresis and distorted left side of face we are in medina right now, heading to makkah for umrah early morning tomorrow iA so I am really worried about it getting worse! I took high dose steroids right away (thanks to hubby dear for bringing his prescription letterhead pad along so pharmacist didn’t create a fuss) and am taking chewing gum frequently plus looking for artificial tears since the eye is getting dry. What else for instant remedy/recovery? :teary:
I know you are both Dr's but I think you should seek proper medical care asap.
Are all your vacc's up to date?
My mum had this which then progressed to total paralysis of the left side of her body. The Dr's had no idea to begin with until one realised she had contracted tetnus.
Thanks for the prayers…really need them. It is the same since two days with no progression alhamdulillah but no recovery either. I cannot believe I can’t eat or drink without leaking it out of mouth with lost sense of taste steroids are yucky and cautsing lots of lethargy and acidity and oral blood streaks. I am now relying on zam-zam therapy alongwith steroids, painkillers and antacids. 8 tablets thrice a day let’s see how long it stays for !
Thanks. It's all discomfort and strange feeling while talking, smiling and eating so I am fine as long as it is nothing very painful. I just am concerned with these 12 days in makkah not going wasted in bed iA. How conveniently we forget to thank Allah for waking us up healthy every morning! I still can't think of the reason of this condition except for calling it a testimony from Allah! It will go soon hopefully
been through the same thing twice now.....first time was mild and second time was more severe.
prednisone.....heavy doses for the first week and then tapering off.
don't worry.....it will go away....does take its time though......no reason to be in bed really.....you can go about things that you need to do but if you are able then get some rest.
Nobody has really come up with a solid answer on this.
I've asked several professionals.
Some say that it could be an infection that impacts the facial nerve.....some say stress.
I'm not entirely sure but both times that I have had it I have been under a great deal of pressure in my life.......I took that to mean that due to the stress I was generally not taking very good care of myself (i.e. in terms of sleep, nutrition etc) and my immune system could have been compromised allowing the virus to take hold.
I've also been told that if you have had it once then you are more likely to see this condition repeat in your lifetime.
Both times that I had it I started treating with the steroids and then after about a week weaned off and went to a homeopathic remedy. I found that that homeopathic remedy worked faster and better than the prednisone.
Thanks muzna, that was quite reassuring. Iwas in real stress in last 2-3 weeks before I had to travel. That could be a reason. Whatever it is, I hope it goes away soon and never comes back to any of us iA
no worries proto…don’t fret.
I’m sure that you will be just fine soon.
meanwhile enjoy the drooling and make fun with the boys if they are with you on the trip…they will love seeing mama drool like a fool.
I found it annoying how when I would smile or laugh I could feel that I was only doing it with half my face.
and ameen to your dua!
@ proto , were you on any medication? if God forbid it doesnt get better, i highly recommend you see your relative doctors, it could be viral and you probably need to be on some antivirals with the steroids. Anyways hope u are feeling better already and u dont have to take any more of these nasty medications. Dont forget to pray for me too! :)
Thanks for your prayers everyone! I will remember you in mine too iA
Muzna, can’t say much about kids if they can point out anything abnormal but hubby dear is happy I can’t frown in anger anymore and avoid yelling or speaking much because of hypersensitive ears and difficulty speaking words with P,B,M,etc and am not asking for a variety of food because I cannot feel the taste at all
Sara, my jethani is coming to meet us tomorrow iA. We’ll decide for antiviral tomorrow iA
yes....definitely do get tested for any sort of infection.....if gone undetected then infections in the facial area can wreak havoc.....but you know that don't you.
I was fortunate not to need any antiviral but both times I was checked.
please do remember us in your prayers......we will be thinking of you for sure.
