I am with Rogers (phone and internet) and am being almost forced by people at home to switch to Bell (phone and internet) because we’re getting a significantly better (cheaper) deal. Please tell me why i should or should not switch.
I am sick and tired of switching phone and internet services between bell and roges over the years. Its a tug of war. And every now and then some little players like 3Web etc manage to stage a cameo.
The one thing that has kept me with the big guys is slightly better customer service. The little guys have no customer service whatsoever. But the big guys are no angels themselves. Have had horrible horrible experiences with both Bell customer service and Rogers customer service but atleast after hours of pulling my hair on the phone with them i do manage to get things done.
THey both suck BIG time. We have Bell internet and home phone but i usually see my dad on the phone yelling at Customer Services PPl. I've heard Rogers is worst then Bell in terms of Customer Service. Btw, i came across this website which i thought was quite funny, www.ihaterogers.com : D
I hate both…but i have rogers for internet and cable. And bell for home phone. We often get calls from both of them to change the services to one another arghhh.
I hate rogers more…they do not let go of the opportunity to get even small $ out of your pocket.
How is Telehop for home phone?

yup.. thats the bottom line .. priority should be determined before changing.. i have an internet line (due to fort-knox situation), its 9.99 for unlimited north america (heavily used for local GTA). female dog to get the hold of these ppl, BUY the service, and even bigger female dog to start utilizing it..
my case is that due to living conditions and geography, i am sorta confined to come across rogers OR bell..
look into the "LOOK" company.. i dealt with them for internet and tv services and was VERY satisfied..
Cheegum, go with uniserve (formerly known as inter.net in Ontario). Amazing service (i.e. very little downtime), amazing customer service, and a monthly charge of 31 dollars (after taxes!). No bandwidth restrictions and 4 to 5 mbps depending on where you live.
In Canada, we have to bend over even if don't have to. Don't worry man, you will be paying the same (maybe less) for the same service no matter what company you sign up with. The people out east don't know how good they have it!

That's why you need to venture out and forget Bell/Rogers. I tried Look but I had problems with them; Uniserve has been fantastic however and I have been dealing with them for the past three years now without any major issues.
You guys might wanna give 3web a try.. its a fantastic internet service provider and you get less than 30$ a month including taxes and everything. Its a cable internet and not dsl, if that makes any difference..
hmm.. I should give uniserve a try.. what do you say the game?

Go for it! Their service has been fantastic for the past few years I have dealt with them.
I've been with Rogers only due to the convenience of consolidated billing for internet/cable/wireless... with wireless being the deciding factor for selecting Rogers over Bell. I need to be on GSM.
For phone, I'm with Vonage for the last four years, and have had no problems with their service at all.
Next year, when we'll have Globalivewireless.ca as another GSM provider, and I anticipate that I'll be breaking away from Rogers at that time.

Not sure about you guys outside of Quebec, but here we only have the choice of 2 companies for Home phone, internet and TV; Bell and Videotron. Then there are smaller companies who buy wholesale from these two and sell to the public. Those are the companies with better customer service and sometimes better service (or so it seems). At the end of the day, the product your getting will be the same. Recently, Bell started throttling ALL of their lines and it affected the other smaller companies (who promised no throtteling).. so it's battle now.
As for wirelss, we have Bell, Telus (running same crap as Bell), Rogers, Fido (same crap as Rogers) and Videotron (buying wholesale crap from Rogers). Seriously, in Canada we pay and pay and get nothing in return. American companies have been saying that they're going to open shop in Canada, I hope they do soon!
Globalwireless was the company who say they will be coming out in Q4 of 09 or 2010, forget which. anyone know?
I was with Rogers for the last 5 years - and then ran into a situation during my move to a new house, I set up an appointment, and the technician came and left, because he couldn’t find anyone at home (He was supposed to call before he came in) _ any way its a Loooong story, and we had to go without phone, internet, and TV for 2 weeks, because according to them the month end is the busiest time and technicians are heavily booked.
I uttered some four letter words (sort of) told them to close my account, and went to the bell store, they promised to hook me up in 3 days. They came and put up the dish and all equipment, and got NO RECEPTION - they said because of the location of my house their is little or no signal reception (Can you believe it !!! )
I told them to take everything off - and then again went to Rogers :halo:
It was a long battle with Bell Customer service over billing. They billed me for new connection (installation and modem etc) and then they billed me for cancellation charges.
I hate these knobs sitting in Customer service - they dont know jack about what to do or how to resolve the issue, and you have to spend hours and hours repeating your postal code, telephone number, your biology score in grade 9 etc etc etc. , and at the end of this session they transfer you to another department who deals with “THIS” particular issue
There are enough people that are just plain tired of the shoddy customer service that Rogers provides. Why are we not doing something about it? My husband believes that Canadians are too meek to really have any impact on something.
Rogers is particularly good at adding and reversing charges to such a degree that it serves no purpose but to confuse you. This way they collect thousands from customers that are either too busy or can't be bothered or can't understand the billing structure.
Yeah, the adding charges as no one's going to notice is a great ploy. Those who do notice and bother to call are happily received and their charges reversed. The other 90% or so people who dont bother calling, and quite frankly don't have the time to call, are happy to shell out the extra $5 every month.
It’s not so much the public, but the government that needs to change its policies around the telecom and broadcasting sector. For decades, they’ve been “protecting” the market from foreign direct investment and that’s lead to a situation where current players have enjoyed huge market shares with little competition - in Rogers case, it was a virtual monopoly in the GSM cell phone market until now (Bell and Telus just launched their GSM service this past month, and there’s two new players in the market… one from the same parent company of Wateen in Pakistan).
Also, now that the market has opened up a little bit, we’ll see more customer involvement in shaping the offers from these firms. I’m eagerly awaiting the more competitive market landscape. It’s about time.

It was much needed!
I don't like both, but we are with Rogers. The thing with Bell is that they hook up the internet via the phone line. We tried it for a while and the phone line sound was way off whenever we were online so we switched back to Rogers.
Both are chors .... and I agree that Canadians are meak. We just keep taking it and taking it and taking it. :(
Its not that we're meek, we're just inactive. And we're inactive by design. A politically aware population is no fun to control. Use the media and schooling to effectively keep us well busy in this rat race and not be aware of our rights and powers. So we sit on our asses and take it and take it and take it.
Bell and Rogers are enjoying the fruits of a closed market where outsiders aren't allowed in. This was to encourage local business to thrive. But that leaves no competition and they become monopolies with unabated hunger for profits.
This only way it seems to kill these monopolies is to let outsiders in. But that would give way to foreign (American) companies to do business here and take away our money.
I wished there was a way to keep Canadian companies in business and still keep them in check so they wouldn't loot people like Bell and Rogers have been doing.
