Bell pepper in salan

My cooking skills are pretty basic to say the least… Hopefully that will change with time…

I’m cooking up a basic chicken shorba today..i have a couple of bell peppers, which i need to utilize somewhere as well.. So can you add bell peppers to a salan? Or it’s restricted to dry chicken recipes?
And at what point during the cooking process should i add it to salan? Last 5 minutes? Earlier during bhoonai?

I've never tried it with shorba recipes... i assume it would get too soggy/mushy..

Add it in when bhooning the chicken, toward the end of it. Then add water etc. It's an experiment.. see how it goes.

Re: Bell pepper in salan

Peppers are better suited for gravies or curries that are chunkier or thicker instead of the watery shorbah type curry in my opinion. Qeemah goes nicely with bell peppers. And chicken jal-farezi has a more khara masala that is well suited for bell peppers. So, do chicken jal-farezi instead of chicken shorbah if you wanna add peppers.

Re: Bell pepper in salan

If you add bell peppers...it should be towards the end because of their quick cook time.

Re: Bell pepper in salan

I use green bell peppers(shimla mirch) in omelet instead of green chillies.

Re: Bell pepper in salan

Ended up going with jalfrezi :-p
Will probably try omelets next time

Re: Bell pepper in salan

Jalfrezi is one option. I do throw it in your regular murghi ka salan toward the end. I loved it after I tried this at someone's place. Goes well with boiled rice. You can also cook it with chicken ka qeema.
