I got a lot of these made as part of my jahez and bari. I know they arent really in fashion in Pak as much anymore but since I live in the US, that is what people have been wearing for the past few years.
NOw with my wedding being delayed until next year sometime and me finding out that we might move to Pak sooner than we expected, waht am I going to do with all the bellbottoms? I will look like I have come from the prehistoric times, no??

its easy to alter bell bottom's cuz of all the excess fabric at the hemline... just ask the darzi to make them into straight legged trousers... should be able to do it...
Ira, I guess since you’re moving to Pak it doesn’t make sense to take old fashioned pant suits with you(they’re not even in fashion at the moment)…Do you think you can sell them to people you know here or online? I’ve sold quite a few of my old dresses on ebay because I didn’t think I’d ever wear them. They got sold for a very decent price!
Make your own statement sis... you dont need to follow fashion trends, if you really like the bells, keep them that way. I like Sajals idea of getting some shalwars made with them also, this way you can change the look as and when needed. Not patiala though its almost nearing its end so youmay want to do a more traditional shalwar.
There are some nice suggestions, esp about getting shalwars made out of matching material. Although most of them are 3 piece suits. Thanks for the suggestions girls!!! Prince MS doesnt count.
I would like to clarify one thing. I find it cute that guppies are caring because I have gotten a few PMs asking me how i can move to Pakistan and if i am scared. Like i said in the post, I “might” be moving, nothing is for sure yet. Lotsa things need to be worked out. I appreciate the concern and please remember in your duas.

Fashion changes. Even if bell bottoms come back, they are not EXACTLY like they were 30 years back. It’ll be a modern interpretation.
Best thing to do is have a darzi make them into pants, and have a few extra shalwars made. My mom is in Pakistan right now, and she tells me that slimmer shalwars are what’s popular. Very few people are wearing patialas (they don’t look good on everyone), and most of the designers have clothes that are slim, fitted, and well-cut.

the thing about small shalwar— they’ve been around for about 2 years and im afraid as soon as i get my jehaiz clothes sewn they will go out of style and everyone will be wearing big huge shalwars:rolleyes:
Right now, it is very trendy for girls to wear big shalwars, like the patiala, dhoti, etc. But the truth is this trend will be over by next winter–people are already tiring of it. For every one girl wearing a patiala, there are four or five who aren’t because it doesn’t suit them. You can’t go wrong with classic suits that enhance your body type. For example, if you are short and chubby, a patiala will not be the best choice for you. You want to look pretty and stylish, not necessarily trendy but bad.
One big piece of advice that I can give you from experience is not to have so many clothes made. I know it’s hard and you feel like you need to have 51 or 101 suits for tradition’s sake, but fashions change so quickly, and in five years, you will absolutely hate your out-of-fashion wardrobe. It’ll be a big waste of money and time. Five years after my marriage, I was laughing at my jahez and bari, even though I had gotten the latest and best designs. I look at my sisters in law, who still have to wear their old outfits, and I don’t care how expensive it was in 1991, it looks really bad today. I would suggest you make a deal with your mom, and get fewer suits made now, but over the years, just keep adding a few fancy suits a year. Each year, there is a new fabric, cut or kaam that wasn’t around the year before. You’ll have a fresh wardrobe each year and you’ll be happier.
If you must get a lot of suits, you can always have the tailor try to alter them in a couple of years to the latest style. That’s another option.

that sounds like a good idea, very good actually
that way we wont have to stress over getting a thousand joras together now w/ all the matching accessories etc etc
